Mirrorball is actually a message to her fans, talking about how she doesn't want to disappoint us and she is always trying her best, finding another facet of herself to give us, just constantly giving and giving... All the effort she puts into her music is to make her fans happy. Epiphany is comparing the pandemic to war. Taylor's grandfather fought in WW2 and so the first half of the song is dedicated to him and what he saw/suffered in the war. Then she switches to the POV of a doctor/nurse and compares their experiences by describing the general overwhelming feeling of impossible odds and being helpless to help other people who are suffering and dying.

Out of all the Folklore album reaction I've watched, yours is by far the best reaction because of how you feel the emotions invested in the song and feeling the meaning of the lyrics I can see the Purity in your soul which is so beautiful. BTW the song "My Tears Ricochet" is about Scott Borchetta who's the owner of her previous record label "Big Machine Records" The line "I didn't have it in myself to go with grace" means that althrough out her battle with Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun wherein they wanted her to just sit back and be a good girl, she refuse to give up and fight for her right to her masters. The line "You know I didn't want to have to haunt you, but what a ghostly scene" means that Taylor is known for writing songs about certain people who messed her up and those songs would be forever played in radios haunting them. Also, the lines "You wear the same jewels that I gave you as you bury me" and "And when you can't sleep at night, you hear my stolen lullabies" The jewels are the albums that she made for the label and the stolen lullabies also refers to her masters wherein Scott sold her albums with her knowledge but what she didn't know is that he sold her masters to her most hated enemy Scooter Braun in which she felt that her masters were stolen from her and that she can't have the right to own her creations. Epiphany is indeed about the pandemic and it's inspired by her Grandfather landing in Guadalcanal in 1942 during the WW II and if you watch/ed her MV for Cardigan you'll see the photograph of her Grandfather in the beginning of the video. 😊

I love your reaction is just so emotional and honest, you try to find meaning in the songs, even though some interpretations were a little off (totally understandable because is a first listening). Thank you for share your thoughts. Also, Taylor said that this album it is not all about herself and her experiences, is about historys she made up or about people she has never meet. Betty, August and Cardigan is about a love triangle.

Track 13- epiphany makes me sob every time I hear it. The first verse is about her grandfather in the war (I’m not sure if he died in the war but I know he was in the army. And also, in the cardigan mv there’s a pic of him from the army) and the second verse is about the pandemic “something med school did not cover” I guess being about the emotional aspect of someone’s daughter or mother dying

Thank you for a quite lovely review. I've watched several and this one definitely rates for me at the top of the ones I've seen. I hope you don't mind my using this opportunity to share one observation I've made after watching these reaction videos. The one dynamic that I've found that is consistent among particularly her fans is the challenge of breaking out of the normal paradigm of taylor's songs being specifically about herself, and so the initial perspective in assessing the songs is "what is taylor saying about herself?" While some of the songs are clearly about her experiences, e.g., tears ricochet and mad woman, we are also seeing a different view of her songwriting with her taking on different characters and sharing stories and the related emotions of other people. It's a new view that I don't find particularly surprising as she has always shown the depth of talent that would allow for it. I so appreciate your openness to sharing how you were emotionally affected by each of the songs (though I did get a bit concerned after "Last Great American Dynasty" about how you were going to make it to the end of the album). I think "folklore" is truly a great gift we've been given, and it was a treat to share your unwrapping of it with you.

On her twitter, she released a statement that talks about how the album first came with these images that came to mind then later developed into stories and characters. Epiphany was about her grandfather in WW2 :) although i do believe it could also have some meaning about the pandemic too. A lot of these songs have some of her own feelings and perspectives in them but they're largely about other people. Only a few are actually about her completely. I subbed - can't wait to see your reactions to other TS albums! I cannot wait in particular for your thoughts on Red - this album Folklore is like Red's older sister.
@Luscent4 жыл бұрын
I'll definitely be doing Red hopefully soon!! I'll definitely check out that statement - looking into filming a follow up vid looking into the real stories behind each song!
@Dreamachineries4 жыл бұрын
I personally think with epiphany she draws a parallel between her grandfather as a soldier in WW2 and health care workers dealing with the pandemic right now. The "breathe in, breathing out" line and the "holds your hand through plastic now"... Oh, and of course, "something med school did not cover".

I really love how during the last great American dynasty you really let yourself feel it, and it's an example of how we all feel songs differently. To me, I might not feel that song as deeply as you do, the way I feel deeply about other songs like mirrorball or seven may not be the same as someone else. It's really beautiful to see how differently music impacts us all so thank you.

Idk if someone else has said this, but three songs tell the story of a teenage love triangle. The fan theory is that Cardigan is the pov of Betty, August pov of the unnamed girl who James cheats on when he’s with Betty, and Betty is the pov of James. I’d like to think illicit affairs is an overview of the situation but idk I haven’t heard anyone else think this :)

Greatest American Dynasty was about The previous owner/ history of her house. Previous owner was found to be a mad woman and was a big owner of an oil company. Betty is written in the perspective of a teenage boy that cheated on his girlfriend and he is asking for forgiveness. I’m also queer and was hoping it was a queer anthem. But she actually uses Ryan Reynolds kids names in the song because they are great friends. She wrote that she was hoping of getting all different perspectives so not every song is about her and her ex but written in the perspective of others.

The last great American dynasty was about the former owner of the house she bought in Rhode Island and herself. “Holiday house” is referring to the summer home in Rhode Island and “b***h pack friends” is referring to her 1989 era when the media kept criticizing her “squad”

I really enjoyed this video 😊 you have an amazing energy, watching it made me smile a lot. Also, I love how you actually listen and feel the music at the same time. from what I've heard she didn't really write a lot of those songs from her perspective, but made it all very fictional. That makes the emotion even more impressive🙈 (oh, and: in Epiphany she talks about her grandfather's experience in the war in 1942, the second verse is about the pandemic, so it's about catastrophes that take people's lives)

Betty, James, and Inez are the names of Ryan Reynolds' children, Taylor uses their names as part of this story she tells in betty. I think it's a fictional song, rather than something that happened to Taylor.
