I think the dancer on 24:30 with red costume is very famous. Its not my first time coming across a video with him. Maybe thats why the crowd started cheering and throwing money at him

I believe the purple dancer in many Zaouli vids and this dancer is the same person. Not unusual for a well paid dancer to have new outfits as time goes by. I got worried for a bit when that fan got way too close and wanted to hug him

I like the variety. Besides the beautiful young ladies (one a new age gal), i think i saw an old woman, a harvest stack god, a panther or was it a jackle, a gazell, a woman with a horde/harem of young men and not sure if the recycle heap was a god of prosperity or misfortune.?

Ils ont tous l'air fatigué ! On sait quand on doit attendre des autorités pour une cérémonie chez nous 😩 ! On vous fait attendre depuis 6h du matin, jusqu'à une certaine heure, au prise avec les intempéries pour atteindre les autorités qui prennent leur temps 😱! Au final, on se fatigue, et on a hâte de rentrer chez soi ! Voilà pourquoi l'assemblée à l'air triste 😩!

An ominous observation. I wonder what the history of this type of ceremony entailed in the past for this culture. Did it involve human sacrifice? The dance is beautiful, but spectators are somber in facial expressions.

@@onyenkwereokwandu7017 I think it's because it's a solemn occasion, full of spiritual meaning and a deeper satisfaction. I've seen other celebrations of zaouli dance and the participants and audience are joyful, raucous and laughing. I think it depends on what the occasion signifies. I read that they must always improve and show off ever more fantastic dance moves so perhaps this is by nature a competition, so a little more tense, the stakes being higher. I'm just guessing, folks!

Unlike many tribal rituals and customs, somehow this dance was invented in the 1950's, centered on a female, and so the Spirit behind the mask. As far as I know, there is no slavery or cruelty connected to this particular ritualistic dance. I may be wrong, but it seemed to me that initially it started as a mating dance. Perhaps gaining power through the years as the Spirit behind the mask dominated the movement master. Ever wonder why Michael Jackson seems to somehow float on air, his feet almost not touching the ground? Some folks said he learned those moves, and the moonwalk, the glissanding, from the zaouli dancers.
