CDM is where the real ballers play IMO. The 6 is the life blood, the engine, the heartbeat of the midfield. If your CDM isn’t clicking, your midfield isn’t connecting between the phases of play. Wish I could convince the kids this is the best position, not being some winger.
@Marcel-yv2wf2 ай бұрын
Absolutely agree. As a Ex Winger i know its built on your Athleticism and Finishing. But played no 6 later and it requires much more different skills. First Touch is crucial, tight spaces, awareness and Timing on another Level. To me its Art, that being said , you need CBs that pass you the Ball at the right moment

When you have a good CDM in the team, it looks smooth and effortless. But you really notice when you have a good CDM, when that person is not on the pitch. Everything looks so stagnant and static.
@craigskeffers59826 ай бұрын
CDM is the hardest positions to play especially single pivot, you need vast experience to play there in top flight football that’s why you rarely see young lads from club academies break into the team as a CDM. Academy Strikers and wingers because if they mess up there is no too little consequence.

1. Follow the opponents press, then: a. Become a passing option. Turn forward and pass forward. b. Make space and be the third man. ( attract opposition toward your possession of the ball to make space for teammates.) c. When the opposing midfield jumps and runs deep forward find the space behind the enemy mf and capitalize. d. Overload in a wide area, create numerical advantages for your team, make as much 2v1 scenarios as possible.
@kennnihnoo6 ай бұрын
This position is hard especially when you are in charge of having to close any gaps created in the midfield they are dead springs back to back , also handling pressure is very tough for many cdms , one mistake and boom you get a counter attack easily 👍 you have to be very smooth when turning and handling pressure
@owenlee57185 ай бұрын
In this position, you need to do things without mistake instead of doing a great job
@emergentempire5 ай бұрын
Playing as a CDM is the hardest job on the football field. And the worst part is that no one is able to understand and notice this work. Your running capacity needs to be huge as you must perform box-to-box. You need to have proper passing skills. You need to have mild dribbling skills and be able to perform well under pressure. The off-ball volume of your work is huge because the range of your defensive duties starts with pressing on the other side and ends with tackling and marking players on your side. To all this, you better have a good shot to be an option for a second tempo attack. And you need to have advanced heading skills to fight for the high balls in the midfield. The volume of your work has no limits wherein the cost of error is extremely high because you have both defensive duels and ball possessions. And every mistake you make gives your opponent either space for an attack or a chance to shoot. So you have high usage, lots of duties, high covered distance, visible errors, and little recognition for success. History knows a lot of great CDMs but not many of them got proper recognition. We (thank God) praise Kante, Xabi Alonso, Busquets (he wasn't a pure CDM but nonetheless), but we've already forgotten De Rossi, Makelele, Rijkaard, Matthäus, even Pirlo, Davids, and Roy Keane. It's extremely hard to get recognition as a CDM because your actions should prevent defensive disasters and start attacking miracles. You stay as far from magic saves as you are from scoring touches. But that difference between "the game is very slack and gutless" and "the team plays very collectively and firm" is all created by CDM's unnoticed hard diligence and endless stamina. Coaches pray for a good CDM as in modern football your play is very dependent on him. Check how Man City performs with Rodri and without him this year. Remember how clubs fought over Rice. Note how Camavinga and Tchouameni impact the game. Makelele and Kante demonstrated a historically high level in their prime, but have we seen the same level of media attention from journalists and award committees that prominent attacking players or defenders could expect? Unfortunately, no. In the end, the workload of a CDM is so large that the window of opportunity for playing at a high level (in terms of age) is much smaller than, for example, for central defenders or CAMs. CDMs with long careers and extended primes can be counted on one hand (and none of them played as a pure CDM their entire career). So once again: CDM is the hardest, smartest, most thankless, and poorly paid job on the football field. Remember names like Viera, Dunga, Deschamps (as player), Cambiasso, Simeone (as player), Silva, Carrick, Fernandinho, Khedira and other mentioned. And appreciate Casemiro, Palhinha, Xhaka, Paredes, Kimmich, Guimaraes, Bissouma,Bissouma, Zubimendi and others (and all mentioned). Sorry for that rant, I just couldn't hold back. Peace!

Choose your Defensive Midfielder type: 1) Anchor/Holding Midfielder 2) Deep Lying Playmaker 3) Destroyer/Ball Winner 4) Box-To-Box Anchor + Deep Lying Playmaker in double pivot formation are best thing if i want keep the ball. But if i want gegenpress and high press like crazy, i will choose Destroyer and Box-To-Box

great video and editting. i would only argue that cdm is one of the most difficult positions to play because of the defensive role, being able to rotate, and constant awareness of the game. vision, reading the game and using ur brain + amount of ground covered would be what separates the good and the great cdms. all aspects which is harder to acquire than something like being able to run fast like a winger. playing great defense is almost always much harder than playing great offense as the man with the ball has the advantage.

Yeah its kind of easy cause you have to be more good off the ball than on the ball (you just have to be there in between the press all the time even if you don't get passed), simple turning and long range passing to switch and stretch play is all you need, scanning is also what you need and is more important for CDMs than any other position to avoid losing the ball

@@dannguyen655 he's uncomfortable turning around to space that's not based on his right foot (even though players like rodri or guimaraes turn no matter what and use the outside of their preferred foot to play) he also sleeps a lot in following the press since he was used to play as an AMC in a double 8 midfield with ajax (Donny van de Beek, De jong and Lasse Schone was CDM) so I guess Barcelona bought him for a role he was never meant to be (unlike rodri who was always a center back or a CDM) or Bruno Guimaraes who's been playing his whole career as a CDM

The Defensive Midfield is the heart of every team. Teams can escape with average players in other positions, but no team excels with an average DM. No top performing team has a mere average DM. None. It's not a surprise Chelsea quickly coped with the absence of Hazard, but hasn't coped with the absence of Kante. I think Caicedo is the weakest link in the Chelsea team; so many limitations he's got. Playing Enzo in that position instead, with the right instructions, will turn the Chelsea team around.

Need to win headers, general 50/50s, usually guard a #10 or best offensive player, responsible for ball distribution and communication. CDM is insanely difficult and the one position where mentally and game knowledge is as important as technicals. Wing or striker are the easiest
