After visiting the abandoned plane of Roosevelt Roads, I knew I had to go back to tackle the rest of this giant ghost town. Little did I know that coming back would put some eyes on me...

So many memories from living on Roosevelt Roads. We are a military family that used to live in the base and truly love it! Thank you Laura for showing how it looks like the area. So sad to see it abandoned like that. I hope one day they can do something useful and beautiful like it was before. ❤🙏🏽

And I love making them like that (: I used to focus a lot on the whole shortening thing and whatever and trying to make videos the way that was “popular” but I found that there wasn’t room for honesty and pacing. When I just stopped caring and doing things the way I wanted to it (long videos) things have been so much better. Also youtube favors long videos over short ❤️ so thank you for enjoying them!

Lau, This one adventure is a great find, that boardwalk and the oceanside lookout tower appears to be a training location. Example: While special forces are out in the water doing survival training the trainers and safety observers can keep a watchful eye. It just appears to be a massive investment to build, for just a recreational use. Then when you think its the highlight you find the McDonalds 🤣😂 Keep exploring Lau along with your amiga. Abrazos.. Stay safe. 😉

I'm a Navy Brat, and grew up in Navy housing. For the most part all house are the same except for Captains Quarters they are usually nicer. That reminds me of a Navy Camp in Virginia Beach. We use to jump the fence and play on the beach. I will say the military has some of the Best beaches. Camp Magu in California has the best surf.. most military bases do have McDonalds,Jack n thebox or BK on the base or close by so they don't have to leave the base. Lol They also have a store for the military on the bases to buy clothes, shoes, jewelry food and pretty much anything they would need at a discount. Another great video girl.

A good idea will be to remodel and fix all the housing, barracks and Navy Lounge for rent-vacation homes. They will making tones of money because it will be booked around the year with a waiting list. Just do the same thing like in Ramey Base in Aguadilla. At least in Ramey they are keeping the housing area in good shape. That's smart! 🤓💡👍🏽🤗

1971 my best friend and I got dropped off on a beach at Rosie Roads. It was a lagoon with an island in it. We put on our scuba gear and headed out to the island. RR also had a drag strip with sanctioned races every weekend. I actually bowled in that very same bowling alley! Our other favourite place to go was Ramey AFB. The surf was great and there was always fun things to do. I ended up dating the Base Commanders daughter while there. I went to high school at Fort Buchanan .Great times and great memories.

Roosevelt Roads was a significant naval base in Puerto Rico that closed in 2004. The death of David Sanes Rodríguez in 1999 during maneuvers by the United States Navy was a major turning point that led to protests and demands from the local community.

I was born @ Roosevelt Roads Naval Air Base. I was told that I was the last baby girl born there. I was the only child on the base that had a military ID @ the age of 3 yrs old. lol I would always leave school & just go exploring around the base. Of the former base's property, about 30% was transferred to the government of Puerto Rico & its municipalities, 40% became a wetlands preserve, & the remainder was offered for sale @ public auction. The U.S. Military kept some portions of the former Roosevelt Roads Naval Base, including 54 acres transferred for the Military Reserves of the U.S. Army that includes the existing Roosevelt Roads US Army Reserve Center & an Armed Forces Reserve Center. So, only part of the base is "abandoned", which is the auctioned off part & parts that were given to the Puerto Rican Gvt. This most likely is why you kept seeing military personnel driving around the area where you were exploring. The larger building used to be the commissary (grocery store), the PX (retail shopping) & the bowling alley.

The majority of the land there now belongs to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.. no longer property of the U.S. Military.. There is a part of the base that is still actively in use by the Army reserve, but anywhere you are not allowed is very much fenced and very well posted. Those satellite images are usually a bit old and won't show the vegetation growth. I remember picking my brother up from a MAC flight and dropping him off a couple of weeks later. Personally, I never served there at Rosey Roads (being Army) but found the base interesting compared to the much smaller Fort Buchanan. On military bases, housing is segregated by rank, with enlisted in one area and officers in another and further divided by rank. The higher the rank usually the larger and nicer the home, so yes, things are cookie cutter, but by rank. Enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing.

A lot of that housing in Puerto Rico was slated for upgrade before closure, it was approved and money spent for upgrade. Then it was decided to close the base, since money was already spent they went ahead and still built a lot of military housing. Many of the housing was never lived in. Military housing is basic, it's track blue print to reduce cost of having multiple plans...so many of them are just repeats.

What are the odds? Oops, me chotié). 😁

Triste ver lo que fue un paraíso hasta que se lo entregaron a los puertorriqueños y lo hicieron otra letrina! Sad to see what was a paradise until given to Puerto Rico to make it another latrine. Puerto Rico lo hace mejor! Memories of Burger King and the NX, Navy exchange!
