I liked this video a lot. To be honest if this was shot in any stateside city it would be a bunch of young dudes trynna show how hard the neighborhood is, and damn near brag about how violent it gets. Over here you went to the projects and it was none of that. It was a bunch of dudes who wanted to embrace the positive aspects of their community, show what it has to offer and why its culture is to be celebrated . They showed you a lot of hospitality and treated you as a guest.

Most people don't realize that Puerto Rico is HEAVILY influenced by New Yoricans ( people born in Puerto Rico , raised in New York City ). Between the 1960-2005 Nyc largest Latino population was Puerto Rican. Salsa was born in Nyc ( debatable ) in the 1970s when Puerto Ricans mixed Puerto Rican, Cuban , Black American Jazz & other genres together to create Salsa ( Fania Allstars ) . The Jamaican population in Nyc also blessed Nyc with Reggae/Dancehall & was huge in Nyc in the 1990s when New Yoricans started to influence the island of PR with Jamaican Reggae , thus creating Reggaeton , obviously Nyc Hip Hop was also an influence .I'm quite aware all this is debatable however as a native born Puerto Rican raised in Nyc who also had a home on the island , going back & forth I saw first hand the influences going back and forth. Puerto Ricans have dominated Latin music for decades with Salsa , Latin Jazz , Freestyle music , Reggaeton , Latin house & it's all because of the Nyc influence , including the constant American tourism that passes thru this American territory. Say what you want about Puerto Ricans ( or hate ) however I've been to many countries & continents & that little island has blessed the world with music in places where people don't even speak Spanish.

I always have fond memories of Puerto Rico and La Perla. In 2020 I was gettin into quick weekend getaways and me and my gf was like let’s do Puerto Rico, we arrived rented a car and as on most vacations I was looking for some “plants”. Everyone kept saying La Perla but no one was saying where or what it was. My Spanish wasn’t good at that time so I thought it was a store, maybe a destination. Didn’t realize it was a neighborhood. We literally walked up on it while exploring the island. We actually ate and chilled in la Perla, it was cool. I’m a black American from Louisiana so I’m used to dangerous places and Puerto Rico’s historic district reminds me a lot of New Orleans

I would like to get to speak by using the voice not to express how much this guy Timmy Karter helped me at a tremendous level. Like two years back I started to watch his videos like I found My Wife in a Guatemalan Village!, Media Won’t Show this Side of Tulum!! And many others until today and he really motivated me to start my own KZbin channel and now I do have it. So, Timmy, keep on creating. I love you so much. Thanks a lot!

I was in San Juan in January. La Perla and Santurce have bad reputations on some tourist blogs, but I never once felt unsafe as a white mainlander who doesn’t speak Spanish. Everyone in Puerto Rico was the most welcoming, friendly and respectful people I’ve ever met. The best food I had was in Santurce not far from Llorens Torres. I wish Puerto Rico could get more tax funding from the US Govt because it is such a beautiful place that has so much potential. It’s just been underfunded, and the end of the sugar industry and lack of investment in the country’s roads, electrical system and other infrastructure have led to so many Puerto Ricans feeling like they had to leave the country to make a better life for themselves even though they would rather stay in Puerto Rico. It makes me so sad that the population is expected to continue contracting over the next 50 years.

I wouldn’t call Llorens Torres a perfect place to raise your child. There’s still LOTS of drugs and guns issues. And once in a while they get shootings.

True, but it is better now than it was before. The constant intern fights kind of stopped because they came to a dialog about " NO MORE SHOOTING," so kids are now safe!🤟

Im telling you every caserio in PR was playing his shit none stop for years at some point. Like 2013-2016 was DJ kelvin at every party . It hit me by surprise when he popped up on the vid.

Timmy! I once went to La Perla I was living my best vacation life and almost walked down to the beach and a car drove by and yelled “DON’T DO IT!!!” Later my Puerto Rican friend told me they eliminate a lot of people who wander into the wrong hood there,l 😮

Its all about of respect, most Puerto Ricans speak English, if you are honest and tell them you want to explore, ask the locals for permission and where are the areas they recommend you can go safely. Never go alone, 3 or more together. Treat all barrios as the house of your neighbor, knock on the door, say hi, smile and state your intentions. Never go uninvited somewhere.
