Paul Reynolds will always be an underrated guitarist, even though he single handedly created the wavy 80's guitar sound. Just a genius that needs to be held in higher esteem. And to think he was only a teenager while in this band.

Under rated comment,completely agree. As much as I adore EVH and shredders 80's guitar woulda sucked hard without the clever minimalist splashes and spritzes that Paul (and others) offered.I think 80's pop guitarists in general have been undervalued compared to the Eric Walsh Van Gibbons. Guys like Elliot Easton for example.

@@markseleood6623 Honestly, concerts were way less expensive back then, but without social media, we relied upon newspapers, magazines, the radio, MTV ad spots & fan clubs for our tour info. Plus, back then, bands like U2, Duran Duran & INXS all played the larger of what are now smaller arenas (by comparison to today's 5,000+ seat venues). The absolute best was finding out a band you loved was in town, then going at the last moment and getting good seats or standing close to the stage at a smaller venue! I must've done that a hundred times, easily! In my life, I've seen exactly 370 concerts - ah, the memories! While I never saw Neil Young, I did see The Alarm! My biggest regret, Mark? That I wasn't into taking pictures back in the 80's! From '83 to '88, I went to 217 concerts, hung out / partied with many bands. I knew the promo reps with all the major labels and got oodles of free vinyl, posters & tickets. I had a great life for 5 years! Thanks for your kind reply to this old man!

@anodyne57
@anodyne57 Жыл бұрын
Just me speaking, but the guitar was the first "line" that I was following. Even if the vocals did hold their weight as a smart melodic counterpoint, it was really the guitar (and to a lesser extent the synths) that WERE the sound of AFOS's songs. It's what set them apart from everyone else at the time. Certainly not the drums (nothing against this particular drummer, it's just that every 80's band of this ilk seemed to fall back on the same basic head-jerking beat.)

Paul Reynolds (guitarist) joined the band in 1979, when he was 17. He replaced the original guitarist Willie Woo. He left the band in 1984. In 2003, he rejoined the group for an episode of VH1's Bands Reunited. Before the performance, he was interviewed about why he left the band; he claimed that he was too young for the "rock 'n' roll lifestyle" and that he was exhausted from all of the performances. In early 2018 he rejoined the original lineup for their first new album since 1984's, Ascension.

I grew up in Montreal and was fortunate to be in my twenties in 1980. These were as many of you said probably the best decade to be old enough to enjoy everything that was available. I use to hang at this club called the LIMELIGHT, Probably the most popular dance club in the city. When this song came on everybody swarmed the dance floor.What great memories.

I don't know if everyone realizes how awesome Paul's guitar playing was, and was single handedly the difference maker in the Seagulls sound. I'm not even sure he knows how revelutionary he was at the time, I think everyone assumed it was synthesizers that was the difference,..... Really amazing and under rated

Damn, this is always a fantastic song. I always find myself getting lost in the ambience at the beginning of it, and then sucked into the rocking beat and riffs, unable to escape until it ends, yet I never want to end anyways. It's videos like these that make me wish I were a lot older than I am if only so that I could be there to experience the events in-person. Long live the 80's!

Clem Burke elite drum kit.. Steve Miller was cool in early 80's to.. Billy Thorpe...... Wanna hear something really 80's? Aussie Band Called "The Angels""but in the US had to be billed Angel city due to female group from Jersey.. Doc Neeson the frontman...They were cool and underrated here..,I loved the 80's...
