FoMaKo PTZ Controller - Good & $$$

Because of your recommendations of the FoMako products, my church purchased the KN30A and KN20A PTZ cameras and the KC-608 controller. This past week-end I was successfully able to convert our existing SlingStudio live stream setup over to the Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro Extreme system. I am thrilled with our new FoMako camera hardware as the results it produces are remarkable. The fact that the we were able to hook up all the FoMako equipment using just an ethernet connection was fantastic and greatly reduced our cabling requirements. Your channel has been invaluable in your recommendations and tips. It has literally saved our church a lot of money. Thank you sharing your expertise.

How do you connect it to the pc or switch

We connect the cameras to our POE switch using CAT6 ethernet cables. We then use Magewell Pro NDI to HDMI Converters to plug them in to our BlackMagic ATEM Mini switcher. It is possible to connect them to your PC using OBS Studio via the NDI plugin.@@christianamuliproductions

Awesome video! Just a quick question for you! I'm working on setting up a church livestream, and I'm wondering if the FoMako PTZ controller/camera supports gradual movement, or is it stepped or all or nothing. On some controllers, if I shift the controller joystick just slightly, it'll move the camera slowly, and it responds to more joystick input smoothly. On other controllers, there's one speed no matter how much you adjust the joystick (the camera is either moving or isn't), or the speeds are stepped like gears on a car so that the adjustments aren't smooth. I was wondering if it's possible to get smooth/fine control out of this for live tracking shots.

We are actually looking at purchasing this very FoMaKo switcher. You said it doesn't do NDI what did you mean by that? Also, I'm looking for the best solution for my multi-PTZ camera operator to view the 4 cameras that person will be operating. What is the best solution, OBS? Is there something better?

Do you know what is the network speed of this controller? I found that most controllers are only 100mbs not 1000mbs and this will cause a lot of lag when used with PTZ NDI cameras, they are unusable with NDI because this detail. Is there any controller you know works in a NDI only camera environment?

Looking at it, that camera supports VISCA and PELCO D, which are two standards most controllers (including this one) support. Should be fine.

Since it doesn't have the preview screen, can you set up an external monitor, separate from the video feed to the ATEM switcher?

Not through the controller itself, no. It doesn't do any video. So you'll need to use a different solution. We use the preview off the ATEM

You say that it doesn’t do NDI, but the link you give does show NDI capability.

Yes, I was confused by that too. They say they are compatible with "USB/IP/HDMI/SDI/NDI PTZ Cameras" in the description then go on to say "which use VISCA, PELCO- P & D protocols". In the instructions there is nothing about using NDI to control the camera and it's not listed on the actual menu on the board, only the various flavors of VISCA, PELCO, and ONVIF. So I think they are being a little misleading in their listing which is why I specifically mention it doesn't use the NDI protocol. If you have an NDI camera it no doubt supports one of the other protocols so you should be fine.

It does not find my prisual PTZ camera IP so i cannot use it to control my camera. it only find my fomako camera and inly works with fomako. how did you make it work with your non-Fomako PTZ camera

Not every camera comes with ONVIF turned on (which is the protocol I use for all my cameras). So first thing I would do is check and make sure your prisual camera has the proccol turned on you want to use. I believe the controller will only use one protocol at a time. So you'll need to pick on to be consistent between them :)

I have the KN30A with KC-608 all from FoMaKo. I having some real trouble connecting the system to the computer. Any advice to get the picture and connection onto the computer screen. I have all IP addresses correct. I'm trying to set up for a church. Thank You in advance.
