Thanks for your comments Renate. That was the 80s. Worth noting that Neil kept a poor family in Nicaragua employed as they were given the task of making his flashy jackets. Some of them had real beads stitched onto them, making them extremely heavy. In one of his performances, as Neil was performing an up-beat, up-tempo song, as he swung around the beads came loose and scattered all over the stage and on the front rows. Those in those front rows rushed to pick them up as mementoes. At 12 years old I attended a funeral for one of my uncles and 2 hours later another one. Both uncles family agreed to include Neil Diamond music. Johnathan Livingston was the choice and my first introduction to his music. I found something I enjoyed. Since then I own every record, cassette and vinyl I can get my hands on. I have attended every concert from Washington, Idaho, Oregon, California Nevada & Az. My Honeymoon timed for his concert in Vegas. After I walked down the aisle to Forever in Blue Jeans. My birthday movie with my kids is Jazz Singer. May you do well through your illness. I have you in my prayers daily. My daughter Holly, enjoys you also. Heard this song on the radio a couple of times back in 1971, and I was hooked. I listened intently for the name of the singer and the song, and then headed out to my nearest music store. On arrival at the store, I discovered that this, to me then, unknown singer, had two albums (LPs). One was 'Sweet Caroline' and the other was 'Stones'. I then did something that I had never done before... I purchased not one, but both albums, my purchase being made solely on having heard only one song from this singer. This song so moved me..._ _"... I got an emptiness deep inside and I've tried but it won't let me go..."_ _The pain, the tortured cries. This was even more evident in 'I Am... I Said (Reprise)'. Neil's voice, his sincerity and pain, tugged at my heartstrings; he touched my soul. I felt his loss, his pain, for I too, was experiencing those emotions (The story's the same one). I am so thankful for you and your music, Neil Diamond. You and your music helped me through a tough time when I left my husband of 15 years with my 3 children, 14-11-7. I grabbed the cassette player, but forgot other cassettes, your cassette was in the player. Listening to you singing all the time, helped me and my children in a time we needed some comfort. When I was literally fighting for my life against Sarcoidosis, I spent a year in bed with only your music to comfort me, you made me happy and hopeful, this I credit you for participating in my treatment, and thus my success in getting into a full remission. I have only been to one concert, and it was Neil Diamond. The day before I was taken to the hospital, they suspected a heart attack. I went with my son I wish I was more active, but I loved every minute.

Yes, Neil Diamond is God's gift to us. A genius, a masterpiece that is a gift to us. And no, I don't think he realizes the impact he has on us. He is such a kind, generous person. He works hard on his music because it fulfills him. It's his calling. I think that's as far as he is aware of who he is to us. I was devastated when I heard about the Parkinson's diagnosis! To give Neil Diamond that diagnosis meant his life was going to be altered. I pray for new treatments, a cure would be awesome. Let him feel how much he means to us. You, his team, that he's so close to and trusts. I listen to him everyday! His voice sends chills up and down my spine. I feel what he has put into those songs. What a wonderful gifted man! I've been lucky to have him in my life since I was a teenager. I saw my first concert when I went away to go to the U of U. I'll never forget that concert. He told us that he was performing, for the first time, a new song. It was "I Am... I Said." It hit me like a thunderbolt! To know that he felt lonely and alone just like me! I wanted to go up on stage and hug him and tell him he wasn't alone, but of course I couldn't. So I just sat in my seat and cried. I'm 72 now, and that song still hits me, impacts me the same way. I become that nineteen year old girl again. God Bless Him 🙏. Please let him be well and let him know how much I love him❤️⭐💎🥰🫂🌹

I believe that he might have had an inkling that there was something amiss when he embarked on his 2017 50th Anniversary World Tour. Observing him perform from the live video on Periscope which wife Katie personally filmed and broadcast from his concerts, I couldn't help but notice a stiffness in his movements and that he seemed to have aged. I was devastated, and when the news broke following his UK concerts.... "I Am... I Said" will always be my absolute favourite Neil Diamond song. My notes from our website - _This has to be my absolute favourite Neil Diamond song. Heard this song on the radio a couple of times back in 1971, and I was hooked. I listened intently for the name of the singer and the song, and then headed out to my nearest music store. On arrival at the store, I discovered that this, to me then, unknown singer, had two albums (LPs). One was 'Sweet Caroline' and the other was 'Stones'. I then did something that I had never done before... I purchased not one, but both albums, my purchase being made solely on having heard only one song from this singer. This song so moved me..._ _"... I got an emptiness deep inside and I've tried but it won't let me go..."_ _The pain, the tortured cries. This was even more evident in 'I Am... I Said (Reprise)'. Neil's voice, his sincerity and pain, tugged at my heartstrings; he touched my soul. I felt his loss, his pain, for I too, was experiencing those emotions (The story's the same one). I grew up on Neil Diamond since I was 10 yrs old. Listening to an eight track tape in our family station wagon on holidays. The whole family would sing his songs. After I was married in 1985 we went to two concerts in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I was sorry to hear about his disease but his music will always be with me. I Love Neil Diamond. 1969, just got home from overseas, dropped my duffle bag off in Michigan, and headed to California for the PARTY. Now I'm 75 and I am thankful for the memories. They were the best of times. Came back to Michigan in1976, got married, had kids and grand babies and as I live the final chapters in my life, I know I've been Blessed.

When I came back from Vietnam I was stationed at Fort Benning(now Fort Moore) for the rest of my time of service at the ARMY service we had a jukebox at our day room and they brought one record one day : Girl, you'll be a woman Soon.Since that day my I spent many months playing that song .I guess no one is a better fan of him.Sorry but I am .

My notes - 'I AM... I SAID': _This has to be my absolute favourite Neil Diamond song. Heard this song on the radio a couple of times back in 1971, and I was hooked. I listened intently for the name of the singer and the song, and then headed out to my nearest music store. On arrival at the store, I discovered that this, to me then, unknown singer, had two albums (LPs). One was 'Sweet Caroline' and the other was 'Stones'. I then did something that I had never done before... I purchased not one, but both albums, my purchase being made solely on having heard only one song from this singer. This song so moved me..._ _"... I got an emptiness deep inside and I've tried but it won't let me go..."_ _The pain, the tortured cries. This was even more evident in 'I Am... I Said (Reprise)'. Neil's voice, his sincerity and pain, tugged at my heartstrings; he touched my soul. I felt his loss, his pain, for I too, was experiencing those emotions (The story's the same one). I always loved NeilDiamond’s music. But my sister-in-law told me a story I love. She had met my brother in less-than-desirable circumstances and had no wish to see him again. When he called her several days later, she was wondering how fast she could get rid of him. He asked her to go to a Neil Diamond concert, and she thought “one date won’t hurt.” She saw him as he usually was on that night, and they ended up getting married and stayed married several decades until his death. So in an odd way, I think my family owes a debt to Neil Diamond.

I don't know how the tradition started, but at Fewway Park during the 7th inning stretch the crowd sings Sweet Caroline. After the Boston Marathon bombing, Mr. Diamond came to Fenway on his own dime to sing with the crowd. Respect Mr. Diamond.
