Hi this is Marc, from the moment I started playing trombone I used two fingers on the mouthpiece. Somehow I felt this gave me the best balance of the horn. Lot of my students took over this way of holding the horn. I can not speak for Carl of course. I can only say playing with my hero was an incredible highlight in my career.

Marc (that's me) is playing a silver plated King 2b in those days. Now I am endorsing the Michael Rath R10 trombone. I think Carl Fontana was playing a Vincent Bach 12 at that time.
