I can't believe 13 deaf people posted thumbs down to this tight swinging band with great Trombone improvisation HIGHLIGHTED by the incomporable BiLL WATROUS! Loved listening to this band!

What a great trombone section. I could close my eyes and tell you which one is soloing. Each one has a distinct inventiveness to his solos...........then there's Bill, too.

This is a top band, I discovered lots of groups from Japan lately, all world class.
@draeke80804 жыл бұрын
Steve, would you care to share some of those groups, I am a huge fan Yoko Kanno & The Seatbelts - is/has there always been a big band movement in Japan? I discovered some of the excellent musicians of The Seatbelts (シートベルツ, Shītoberutsu, also known as Seat Belts or SEATBELTS), a big band formed around Yoko Kanno to play music for a series 'Cowboy Bebop'. I highly recommend to check out The Seatbelts - Souvenir of Tokyo Tour (2001). This I think was Hard Bop.

@@TokyoBigBand Absolutely, thanks for the tip, I'd like to learn a lot more about the jazz scene over there, I've seen a lot of very talented musicians that have got the idea right as well as the technical skills to back it up, looking forward to seeing some of your arrangements

There is an economy to the way Bill Watrous plays that is just amazing. No lost motion, nothing extra, just right. All these players are top notch. And the little bass bone player has a nice fat sound, too.

Bill used to refer to that as his "Prince Violent" haircut.

Why does bill watrous's sound sounds so different from others
@rmtrombone58797 жыл бұрын
Look at how close Watrous is to the mic. Different mic. Watrous has his own unique sound. Watrous play a Bach trombone, Kataoka is playing a King.
