Different style..so no point of comparing, but one thing this version makes me appreciate is how Prince really had this rich compositional touch, like he managed to bring so many layers out of one texture and create such vivid patterns with them..it gave a sense of rhythm, space, anticipation and resolve..it could be small and tender in one, funny in the next and fiery and powerful in the next sec. Not linear or like a flood of sound just cascading towards you like a lava. I think his style was so communicatative, kept you curious about where is he taking this and how..i guess in a way his musicality spoke about how layered his intelligence and imagination were. This version just makes me feel the difference and appreciate his skill that speaks to me more than someone elses i guess..
