I really like how Dave painted a picture with the lyrics in this song. First line in the first verse, Kurt. Second line in the song, Dave playing in the room. Next line is Kurt again. I drink too much...when he tells his two best friends is Krist. What a great picture of that time. Dave is a really great songwriter. Hence why Foos are still here.

I’ve been in a spiraling depression. Recently quit drinking and trying to find some kind of clarity in life. Been so hyper fixated on life and death. I’ve been thinking about if I’m doing a good enough job for my kids. Am I providing good enough. Are we going to have another Christmas where I feel like a failed father? Probably. Been thinking about what happens after death. Been very afraid lately. This song gave me a relaxed feeling I’ve needed for a long time now. Came out of no where I didn’t know where to look for the comfort I’ve needed lately. Basically felt so lost. Have all these weird ideas and feelings going on in my head. Thanks Dave for this I truly needed this. ❤

This song still hits me after all these years, and I can still remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news. They say some artists relive the happiness or pain, like a unique ptsd, each time they sing their music or a writer when he/she rereads their work for others etc etc. I believe Dave Grohl is one of them. I mean look at his face :52-1:00The pain is stamped in the eyes, face almost a helpless mask to peal back and show the fans his sadness and love for Kurt. God bless art, God bless Dave and Foo Fighters, God Bless Kurt and Nirvana, God bless all artists

There's a purity to this early stuff, all the way through the color and the shape, which is sort of missing in the newer material he writes. He traded some of that spirit, and weirdness, and melancholy, and oftentimes just dumb fun for big stadium rock songs which might be technically better and more mature, but are missing what I loved about his work in the first place.
