Its a shame, initially I think he was an oddity. Everyone wanted to see nirvana's drummer. I remember the first gig at the barras. By the end, everyone was sweaty and loving foos in their own right. But we went to see Dave, Kurt's drummer. Shows how talented he is that he moved on.

I just came across this concert now on YT. I attended this concert in Brixton, London in '95. The biggest memories I had of this show when I was 25 were kids in Nirvana shirts wanting to crowd surf as one kid wanted me to boost him up over the layered railings (which prevented crowd surging) onto the heads of other kids more interested in that than the show. I also remember Dave's voice being out of key on a lot of stuff and raspy. It was after all, his transition to being a front man after his previous band, which ended only over a year previous. Finally, it is also worth noting which no one knows about, is that when the opening act, Built To Spill, was performing a tune with a guest cellist, the kids in the audience bombarded him with their water bottles causing BTS to walk off stage and end their set abruptly. Oh, those were the days!

From September '91 til the summer of '92, I didn't know what Nirvana looked like. I had been listening to them on Top 40 Radio. By the summer of '92, I happened onto MTV--the "Teen Spirit" video was playing and I FINALLY get to see what these dudes look like! There was the little fella; he had a bunch of hair in his face. And there was the big fella; he had a bunch of hair in his face. They were bouncing around at this fuct-up pep rally. What struck me the most was that dude back there with the "Scream" shirt...He was...Dave Grohl. And 31 years later, I still haven't the words to quantify, without sounding like a stupid little groupie-fan-sign my autograph-prick! So, I'll just have to see you (Dave) backstage at one of my shows, you know, like that time Steven Tyler came to your show? We'll talk then...

Goldsmith can clearly play all of the parts -- and there are some pretty tricky ones -- on the S/T album note for note. And if you've heard the TCATS demos, the drum parts are essentially the same as the album. He was clearly a more than capable drummer who wrote parts Dave liked enough to re-record them when he redid Will's drum parts. Really wish TCATS would've been Will and Dave collabing on the tracks -- Will recording some and Dave recording others -- and then Will doing them live. Dave was more mature by TINLTL and would've been more willing to let go and let the drummer handle the drumming. If Dave had been upfront about that the entire time, Will probably wouldn't have left.
