The unknown of the Foo Fighters. Dude gets no shoutouts or respect from band members or fans. Hell, most bass players have no clue who he is and it's a shame. He's always rock solid and plays extremely clean.

he's not a very standout player to be fair, mostly just 2 maybe 3 note basslines

@@Dolphinsafesprouts377i disagree. their second album is full of insane bass lines from Nate. i would even argue Nate’s bass playing gets too busy at time in the album. very underrated player

@@Dolphinsafesprouts377 Maybe listen to SDRE Diary. He is all over that album and his bass is basically what makes that album that album. Check it out, and you will probably realize how much of his talent is wasted in Foo Fighters.

I find you never realize how brilliant a bass player is until you isolate it Nate Mendel is pretty fucking great

You can realize how brilliant most bass players are without soloing it if you know how to pick out the bass. Nate Mendel might be an exception because he's not super busy and he's pretty buried in the mix. But you don't have to isolate Robert DeLeo, Paul McCartney, James Jamerson, John Paul Jones, etc. to hear what they're doing. You just have to have an interest in bass.
