The song is about a conversation that Dave had with his daughter, she asked him about a war coming and he realised he also had the same anxieties at her age, and it depressed him that even 40 years on, his daughter has the same worries. So this song is about wanting more than just “Waiting On A War” lol. I did like your interpretation though, made a lot of sense if you look into the lyrics..

Foo fighters meant it fairly literally but it's still written in a way that allows it to apply to any kind of conflict. Doesn't matter if it's a fight with your parents or an impending workplace showdown. It works for everything and that's great music
