This presentation was a part of our 2024 Food for Thought lunchtime lecture series held on Thursday, July 18, at 12:00pm CT. Christy Anderson presented Documenting the Architecture of the Everyday in Alabama.
In the early years of historic preservation, buildings first deemed worthy of protection tended to be large, architecturally elaborate houses, typically the homes of prominent individuals in a community. Anderson will discuss the evolving nature of historic preservation as the profession seeks to understand communities through the architecture of lesser-known historic buildings and their stories. The presentation will examine examples from across the state to explore the importance of common and often-overlooked places that exist in all of our communities.
The presentation will be held in the ADAH's Joseph M. Farley Alabama Power Auditorium and online on Facebook and KZbin. Admission is FREE.
Food for Thought 2024 is sponsored by the Alabama Humanities Alliance and the Friends of the Alabama Archives.
