Miller is right. Dems might learn something. Sometimes the best critics come from outside the Party. And I wouldn’t vote GOP for anything. The Democratic Party from other democracies looks like a moribund gerontocracy that is too sluggish to get out of its own way. A terrible performance by Biden, but I blame a Party that doesn’t know or care to understand the moment and is unable to to tell a Party leader to step aside. A tragedy for the whole world..

i think the fundmental issues are generational: young people feel powerless, thus they vote less. it doesn't help that democracy appears to be ruled by (techno)capitalism/oligarchs.
@3eschmitt21 сағат бұрын
I think this is true and there is plenty of blame to go around. But I kept waiting for some kind of a youth movement to appear like we saw in the 60s. Climate change and protecting democracy seemed like the perfect issues to create mass mobilization amount young people. It was painfully obvious that Trump was a danger to democracy and would totally reject climate change science. It saddens me that this may be the generation that enabled the collapse of democarcy after 250 years.

@@3eschmitt Gen-Z isn't liberal. That's your first mistake. Gen-Z men are turning away from "democracy" in droves and hate living under a bureaucratic society. They're not a fan of politicians or mainstream media networks or corporations for that matter. They want adventure, change and excitement. They basically want a new Caesar, not more politics. Gen-Z women are very self interested and generally care more about their personal wellbeing than abstract issues like climate change or protecting democracy. They want lower prices and a better quality of life. So the gender gap is overblown in my opinion. Young men and women are aligned in some areas and none look good for the status quo.
@dollarize641220 сағат бұрын
@@catholicpog7183 how I see it is that middle aged (mostly white men) who are influencers of younger men are not liberal(rogan, von, musk, etc), and they have the means to influence the politics of younger men. In reality these young guys just want to get a good job, have a beautiful gf and enjoy life, but that is getting harder and harder to find. So what you have is a class divide, but the frustrations of not being able to achieve that life are being exploited by the billionaires and millionaires who ironically should be the ones at the receiving end of everyone's frustration. Instead what you have is us ordinary folks at each other's neck while the billionaires(musk, trump, thiel, andreesen, bezos, vivek) and millionaires(rogan and co) are sipping martinis and laughing at us.

The elite class splits between those trying to defend the status quo and those leveraging popular anger to their own advantage.

@@catholicpog7183 amen to that. pretty accurate description of gender differences amongst younger people. it's insane to fathom how people aged 50+ are the key decision makers in a world that is so highly dependent on it's young population to succeed - yet, being a young educated adult has never been more useless than in our wealth-oriented society. capitalism as it exists right now is doomed to fail. and it will not be replaced by socialism or communism, but by something far far worse: a return to feudalism. with the big tech CEOs as our kings (and occasionally queens).

Funny how Tim mentions "agreeableness". The trait, Agreeableness, one of the "big five" personality traits, is more heavily weighted towards females and also a bit more represented in Democrats than Republicans. Trait Conscientiousness is more highly represented in psychological conservatives and has a subtrait, Orderliness, where disgust lives. People high in Conscientiousness/Orderliness are more likely to have disgust reactions to things outside their norm, but also to disarray and chaos. For example, a messy kitchen or photos of chaos at the border will have different psychological impacts on people with these personality traits and will literally create disgust. For a very compelling description of different "moral" components in Democrats vs. Republicans, read Jonathan Haidt's 2012 book, The Righteous Mind.

I predict a significant shift in voting positions when the majority of the boomer generation die off. It's the older generation that votes in contrary to progressive views and positions. Yes, there is also data that shows the older a person gets the more conservative they become. But I think this statistic is a dying one. The way we raise children these days are, in a majority, is in an accepting progressive way. It will take some time and some learned experience. But changes like these take generations. It sucks that we are experiencing this in my lifetime, I wish it wasn't. I wish there was a way to shake some sense into the political geriatrics that cling to power by ignoring the people's wants/needs and sabotaging the up and coming politicians that do listen and do want to enact those changes. Capitalism suffers from greed, politicians suffer from fear. Both work together to keep the status quo. Scott, I would really like to hear your view on MMT. BUT, please don't just parrot out what people like Bernanke or Hubbard or Feldstein or even Summers have said. Read Stephanie Kelton's book The Deficit Myth and/or watch the documentary based on it, Finding The Money. Understand the position of MMT entirely and then tell me where you think the holes are. She advised Biden during his presidency and it is what brought about the CHiPS act among other things. He seemed to embrace MMT without mentioning anything about it. Most likely because the GOP would have jumped on him and MMT as being "voodoo economics" (as Summers has been quoted as saying). I would love to see you invite Stephanie onto the podcast to talk/debate about it. I'm so sick of people talking about money and economics as if it were a law of physics. We created money, we control what it can and can't do. Instead, we let it control us. AI be damned!

* Jessica's take that Kamala was a "flawed candidate" is just parroting mainstream media. You had an actual convicted criminal - fraud and sexual abuser - running, old, being completely nasty and promoting violence and yet, Kamala was "flawed". * Tim's "identity politics" by Kamala is also 100% off base. Trump played identity politics the entire time - to divide and conquer - while Kamala was trying to be in the middle. I've watched a couple raging moderates videos where both Scott and Jessica give a pass to the worst of humanity.

@@JeannoJones-pj3hoit's a nice way of saying she was a black woman. The Dems messed up by trying to court suburban voters instead of hitting the metros. I still think because who she married was an anchor for getting that vote.

Scott and Jessica don't see it as identity politics because it directed towards white people lm

@@momohmartit seems like they are getting rid of my comments. Trump played identity politics. Hell the GOP has since the southern strategy.Kamala didn't and that is why her black vot turnout was lower in the metro areas. If higher she wins

@@catherineconner9968 sick burn... I was born in California, and was a Dem until 2017, call me what you want, but I'm a moderate. I'm a real liberal from the 90s-00s. TDS is real and it's effecting so many people, which is sad. They are all really smart, and have good takes on so many things, but as soon as Trump is mentioned the bias is so strong. Just take him out of the equation, they'd agree with things he does and policies he proposes. Literally take his policies, and remove his name, and send them to people and see what they think. I did this 72 times to Democrat friends, they endorsed them every time. I sent them to big figures online, and they agreed with them. As soon as Trumps name is included, they hate them after the fact. Does that make logical sense?
