Yes glad you have that greengage. I have had my tree for many years now and given suckers to many people - and the fruit is so sweet!

Lovely Video. My Husband planted out an Orchard 35 years ago. It didn’t work for us. I’m now building my Food forest. I’ve got a dwarf Mulberry, some Wild apples and plums that we dug up from the Orchard and incorporating a couple of Citrus trees as a Canopy. I’m just loving these Videos as they have a wealth of knowledge that I can learn from.❤️

Wonderful to find another UK forest garden. I'm collecting a playlist of all of us, so have added you too. I notice the difference of plants growing next to nitrogen fixers too.

Thanks for adding us to your playlist. We will be sure to look at the other videos as it’s always great to see what others are up to! Where abouts in the U.K. are you?

@@The_OffGridFamily we're in a town in the Thames Valley. Ordinary suburban home with a forest garden out the back! I think my neat-gardening neighbour with his bedding plants and rose beds might think we're a bit strange. 🤣 Very different to your amazing off-grid set up. I love seeing everyone's different implementations of forest gardening for their circumstances. ❤️

@@familyfruit9833 Sounds great 😊 We don’t fit in with our surroundings either. A woodland in the midst of miles and miles of agricultural fields! But it works for us 🤩 We love seeing what other people are up to too as we’ve still got lots to learn. We’re putting a polytunnel in this week so that will be an exciting new project and a total learning curve! 😊

Nice video! Me and my partner are in the process of getting a bit of land over the next couple of years but currently I've got an allotment space where I'm gonna try plant a 7 layer food forest type idea before getting an actual land of our own (we are in north east scotland) - Nice to see an established forest that has incorporated native wild plants, since i want to emulate nature entirely and use mainly wild plants as much as possible in a recreated forest:) Thanks for the video, subscribed!

Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for subscribing 😊 We are hoping to have a big push on the amount of food we grow next year and are in the process of putting up a poly tunnel so there will be lots of videos on that coming up 👍 We love Scotland and have visited lots over the years. All the best for your projects. Sounds very exciting! 👍

We have a hazel tree in the garden and like you we don't get a look in. The squirrels always get there first. We also have a couple of wild plum trees growing out the front of the house. They are small but very tasty and the bugs don't seem to be interested in them. We tend to pick them and make them into jam. There are a great many sweet chestnut trees around here so we can just collect them wild. I'd love to have a walnut tree but we just don't have the space for one in the garden. I do know of a place where there is a wild one but again, the squirrels usually get most of them before I get chance. Here in our village a number of people put out wind fall apples for anyone to have which we often make into a crumble. Great video, keep it up.

It sounds like you live in a lovely area 😊 It must be so nice to have people sharing their apples, and trees where you can pick walnuts and sweet chestnuts (if you can beat the squirrels). Because our area is so heavily agricultural we are lacking in communal trees, or even hedgerows. We also find people don’t tend to give much away for free! 😊 Hope the solar is going well. Where is the sun?!?!
@nicholashowell

@@The_OffGridFamily Yeah, it's not been much of a summer for solar this year. Are you managing to generate enough from your off grid set up to keep you going?

Plant mulberry trees 🤌 You can also use seed bombs / seed balls to sow lots of fruit trees, shrubs and vegetables

Such an inspiring video, I hope to do a similar thing in my garden over the next few years. I'm not sure if it would be your thing or not, but squirrel is quite tasty meat. Get yourself a decent air rifle and make use of them as another abundant food source.

Thanks for your comment 👍 We have an air rifle but it needs repairing. Wish we had it as we are inundated with rabbits this year. They've been a nightmare! ☺️

Well done, we have a young(ish) food forest across 2.5 acres here in Lincolnshire, it's great to see fellow Brits following this path, wish more people were able to do it, what area are you in & how much land are you growing on?

Thanks for your comment ☺️ We have 4.5 acres but not all of it is planted out as a food forest.

@@The_OffGridFamily I don't know if you've seen a KZbinr called Stefan Sobkowiak, he's a Canadian apple orchard owner of many years and he has a video on dealing with insect damage to apples. If I remember rightly it involved hanging makeshift traps in the trees to trap the insects, I can't remember exactly how they work though.
