There is a real problem for me In where I live there are NO vets for birds. Only for cats and dogs. I'm scared if its sick what do I do ;-; Edit: I would like to share something with you guys, whose bird friends are sick. Do not search for get clinics. Vet clinics in smaller countries are often only for dogs and cats. Try searching for qualified vets who work from home. I suggest joining a Facebook group or something with people who own birds from your town. That way you can find a vet easier. I hope that helps And a little update on my bird: She is okay! Her legs are paralyzed, so she has trouble walking and she can't grab stuff but she is as healthy as ever

In that case, you will always have to make sure that your bird is 100 percwnt healthy, his her cage, food and water is clean. Be sure to provide him a varied diet. They often become sick in winter. U can use a fleece bla ket for that. Hope that helps.

I just adopted a second budgie and it's absolutely amazing to me that she's not a picky eater! My 9 year old budgie, Spock, is a ridiculously picky eater, but my new birdie Sasha (who is only a few months old) will try absolutely anything! her favorites foods are raspberries, peas, spinach, millet and even pellets! She's a natural healthy eater and I honestly celebrate every day when I'm cleaning her food bowls over how little food I have to throw out!
@angelicap5190
@angelicap5190 5 жыл бұрын
SeabassFishbrains Wow that's so great that you adopted a second one! (I'm sorry for the super late reply lol) Younger birds tend to try more foods and when they age they stick to foods they like and they are less interested in new foods. It's so great how you are giving Sasha a variety of food to choose from, and I hope you and your budgies have been well!
@SeabassFishbrains
@SeabassFishbrains 5 жыл бұрын
@@angelicap5190 Awe, thank you! I only just saw this reply. Getting a companion for Spock was one of the best choices I ever made (I finally got the courage to go against the outdated advice of Spock's breeder who had said that Spock would stop interacting with me if he had another companion) and both birds have flourished so much, they're both happier and healthier for having each-other

a great tip for teaching a bird where it’s water is is to not only stir it around, but to put some on your finger and let your bird lick it off. eventually they’ll grasp the idea “oh that’s where the finger water comes from”

@Gabdube
@Gabdube 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I used to be against clipping flight feathers, but it's really an important safety measure if you live in a place that has cold winters, or just about anywhere that parrots don't live in the wild. Dying of cold, thirst or hunger while being terrified and confused is a cruel and horrible way to die. And definitely _do not_ buy a parrot at a pet store, especially if you don't live in a tropical country. Breeding parrots should be illegal in countries that have cold winters. So many birds die in minutes after flying away in the winter.
@SeabassFishbrains
@SeabassFishbrains 5 жыл бұрын
GabDubé I have to say, only an irresponsible owner leaves the window open when their birds are out. Get screens and don't let your birds outside without a proper aviary or harness if they aren't free flight trained, don't make them hang out outdoors in the winter either aviary or not. Indoor flight and recall training is the responsible thing to do when you own a flighted bird. It is perfectly acceptable to own a parrot if you live in a colder place as long as you keep your home heated properly and keep your birds indoors. Clipped birds don't get a healthy amount of exercise which leads them to end up at a higher risk for fatty liver disease which can be fatal. There are a handful of legitimate reasons to clip a bird (like if the bird is a horribly clumsy flier and isn't tame enough yet to be flight trained, or you're moving or taking your bird to a ton of vet appointments and you don't want your bird to take a fright flight in an unfamiliar or potentially unsafe environment) but the only reasons that people present to clip all captive birds are tied to irresponsible ownership.

Joel Riley I’ve had birds all my life . I don’t use much seed at all. Their staple is a pellet . While I don’t have budgies anymore , only canaries and finches , I was sure that bananas are also not good for birds. And contrary to what you said about alcohol , if you have a new , very nervous bird , or one that has the first symptoms of minor respiratory illness , a drop of whiskey in a large bath or bottle is medicinal . Everyone should do what they feel comfortable with and obviously consult a decent avian vet if needed .

I have 10 Parakeets in a cage and I change the food twice a day and clean water sometimes 3 times. But Sometimes I have to change the water more often because it gets dirty. They get plenty of treats and fresh food that I eat like slices of bread, bananas, and other bird-friendly treats.

QUESTION Where did you get this water feeder? I tried to find one like that, but not many good options online. Maybe I’m not looking in the right pieces I really like the black one you have inside the cage I would like to get that one

Alen, i own 2 budgies, Atlantic and Pacific. Ever since i got them, Atlantic’s beak (the female) has turned dark brown, and Pacific sleeps all day and doesnt sleep at night, also, i domt have an avian vet near my area. The only vets are for dogs and cats.

I found that most of the rescue birds I’ve cared for won’t eat pellets if they have dye in it. I’ve had way better luck with pellets that aren’t dyed. I assume it’s because those pellets look more like seeds.
