@@technician775 Can you update on this question? Before I place an order I would like to know. Thank you...

Hi, yes it does, I suggest using the mylar bags and a good quality heat sealer or iron with the settings on wool....not too hot, but enough to seal....go to "sorbent systems" they have a great tutorial on sealing mylar bags, TY!

I love watching your videos I have dry canned a lot with the mason jars from your videos, but could you give us a hint as to how long the shelf life is now on the different canning methods. This video on the honey container rice and bean storage, how long is t now good for. Thanks for all your work and sharing

Hi and thank you for watching, the key to ALL long term food storage is temperature and packaging. Keeping foods stored at or below 70 degrees F will extend the shelf life. Anything about that and the sliding scale goes the wrong way or it shortens the shelf life. These items; white rice, beans, whole wheat berries etc. will store for 10 plus years. I would start checking the quality after that. Like ALL wise food storage, rotating your food stores is crucial for freshness. Hope this helps,

Hi, thanks for watching, good question, important items for long term: temperature is crucial for long term storage, keep temps under 70 degrees F for best results. Next containers; mylar is great for keeping the light off the product and seals very well, glass jars are great, rodent proof and reusable, the PETE plastic is a good choice with the pressure sensitive seals and oxygen absorbers, should keep for 10 years plus (check quality at the 10 year mark). One of the biggest things on long term storage is ROTATION, please keep your items rotated. That what is nice with mason jars, reusable, (new lids). We used to use a lot of #10 cans, although the can sealer is VERY expensive and the cans are hard to get, now we opt for pre packaged in #10 cans. Shelf life is 30 years under ideal conditions as mentioned with temperatures. I hope this answered your question, if not, please feel dree to ask again !!! TY!!!!

I store all my dry foods in one-gallon plastic jugs that I collect from orange juice, iced tea, etc. I've been storing them anywhere they will fit in my place, but I am dealing with a lot of clutter and that drives me nuts. What I am about to do is unscrew all those caps, wrap the threads with teflon tape, screw the caps back on and store all those jugs of rice, beans, etc outside to free up space inside. I'm in an RV, so space is definitely valuable to me. I'm in the Pacific NW and, I think if I can keep out moisture they should be fine out there. I will probably also add a moisture absorber to each jug as well. Do any smart people here foresee any issues with this plan at all that maybe I haven't considered?

Excuse me, I meant I will be adding oxygen absorbers. I'm pretty sure they will be plenty moisture resistant.

i would also dip the necks in wax as an extra protective, TY!
@lonewolfsurvival34533 жыл бұрын
That's a great tip! I use wax for a lot of waterproofing around my place. I mix it with lard to get fixin wax that I rub into my leather boots, belts, sheathes, etc.
