Joanie, this is genius. Thank you for this tip! Could you do a video on the various black and white reflector sizes you have? I keep wanting to cut up my foam core boards, but I can't even begin to fathom all the different dimensions I need to keep with me at a shoot.
@AtlantaTerry
@AtlantaTerry 5 жыл бұрын
You can buy standard sized white and black foam core boards at Dollar Tree or craft stores then take a sharp knife or box cutter with you to cut to size as needed. When you buy them for only $1 at a Dollar Tree store, you don't need to worry beforehand what sizes are needed.

Fascinating results! I've always gone with lemon juice or brushed the fruits with extra virgin olive oil. I usually dab it then with a lint-free kitchen towel and it leaves just a thin shiny film which actually helps me catch highlights in picture. I've heard thay coating them with onion juice or even placing them beside fresh-cut onion would prevent browning too, but never tried this 😄

Learned this in a styling FB group, but I totally use it for practical purposes on the off occasion we have leftover avocado. Works so much better than citrus, may even perk up the green a little!

Tried the lemon juice first and then the vodka. Squirted lemon juice in my eye then drank the vodka! After that didn't care what the food looked like!

New knowledge. Sodium bisulfite has long been in the chemicals of photography. It is used as an anti-oxident in a number of B/W developers.

Nice tips!!! ps. here in China there is another way to keep food fresh. Just soak the vegetables and fruits in salt water for about 5min, and they may keep for about half an hour. Not particularly effective, but cheap LOL.

Well done. One thing you might have tried is saran wrap. If you keep air from reaching the veggies I think that does the best job.

Yes, it is OK while the food is waiting but what do you do when it is on the plate being lit and arranged? It can brown if you don't do anything.

How long do you let the artichoke on the sodium metabisulfite? Do you rinse it after you dip the artichoke into the solution for a certain amount of time?

Delores Custer's book on food styling features a huge sandwich on the cover: www.amazon.com/Food-Styling-Art-Preparing-Camera/dp/0470080191/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1545516181&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=food+styling+helen Use 3 bamboo skewers cut to length with a sharp wire cutter tool. Place the blunt ends on the plate then stack the layers over the sharp ends. Doing this will cause the weight to rest on the skewers, not the lower layers. Have as little of the tomato inner part as possible in the sandwich - cut most of the juicy parts out and only show the edge. When you do this, you will have less of a chance of tomato ooze sliding down your perfect sandwich. Prepare small squirt bottles of mayo, mustard and ketchup beforehand. Then squirt a tiny bit as needed onto the burger so it looks good from the camera's point of view - don't slather it onto the sandwich as you would if you were going to actually eat it. Use white glue to position each sesame seed exactly where you want it, don't trust to luck. Cut out disks of brown cardboard then place the partly cooked meat patty on the disk. This adds support to the meat layer. Buy lettuce with "character" not something flat and boring. Melt the cheese with a heat gun from the hardware or electronics store. I bought mine at Harbor Freight for about $10. Terry Thomas... the photographer Atlanta, Georgia USA
