Does adding texture change a color? Texture isn't flat or uniform, and in a solid cloth napkin, a single color appears to have slightly different shades depending on how the light catches it. Also, would adding another texture detract from the inherent texture/colors already in the food/subject?

What if I need to capture fried/ grilled foods like grilled fish / stingray. They range from darker browns on terms of what color they are. Usually I would use a white backdrop, however if I want to have a “vintage/ old school” feel to it. What color should I use ?

This is so helpful! I so struggled with my last post- which used the Mardi Gras colors. I ended up going with my original recipe/shots which used a açaí purple smoothie base instead of the green spinach banana one even though I still wasn't happy with either in the end because the tones just don't work well together. I need that book professor Joanie!

wow that was really clear and an amazing knowledge to have, even in portraits and landscape or whatever else you shoot. Im starting to get interested in food photography, as I also love cooking, and wanted to start shooting few dished. I have so many questions, and I was wondering if you would have suggestion or a video where you give tips on first few simple ideas and props/items to have to start with food photography. I tried yesterday to shoot my Eggplants Parmigiana, during the evening, but I have only a cheap speedlight mounted on the camera (no diffuse or remote trigger), bad tripo with no hanging arm , so had to tilt the camera as low as possibile, and not many props, therefore used only an eggplant and the basil leave. Was a nightmare, to come out with something not really appealing: instagram.com/p/BurusvrlMRA/ And I'm here stuck in the mentality that I need more items and a better flash/diffuser, or I simply need to learn something more that money dont buy?
