Actually, that’s not at all what happened. Flint Lockwood kept ignoring the warning signs and using the machine because the mayor stroked his pride, making him feel like the idol of the town that he always wanted to be. He did it pretty much for himself. In the end, however, he fixes his mistake and heroically shuts off the machine for good to save the *entire world.* this movie literally has the opposite message you’re claiming it has lol
