It was 20 degrees for a few days here in Sanders Arizona

Did you use store bought top soils .. or alfalfa grass .. the top soils could have been from cows that eat grass sprayed with weed killer .. same thing happened to me .. then I went dumpster diving to get vegetables to mulch and wild horse poo and mixed all that with my rabbit poop soil .. then everything grew great

No we used our worm castings and our rabbit manure
