natto beans aren't tightly sealed together; there are plenty of gaps for oxygen to circulate
can I get the spores from capsules of probiotic products that say they have LIVE bacillius subtilis spores? The spore powder is not for sale in USA.

Normally Rice cooker "keep warm" function is too hot to make natto. The temperature should be keep around 40 degree cellucius.

Believe it or not this is still a closely guarded family recipe! Nobody goes beyond "adding the spores" techniques, and this is the hidden element! Let me just say exactly what I picked up as a guest at a cooking class for such... "You blow on them" No spores to buy, no commercial natto to copy, you just "blow on them"... ie. No more mystique!
