The last few months I’ve been travelling a bit and so have missed some of my favourite dishes from namma ooru. In this short vlog, I reacquaint my taste buds with the comforting joy of an idli in the kotte kadubu and an unusual coconut shell-steamed idli at the new outpost of Jagli Tindi a passion enterprise committed to showcasing dakshina kannada’s tiffin thindi. Hope you enjoy my return to Bengaluru in this one. Happy eating!

Jackfruit leaves idli is generally made during ganesh chaturthi with tender jackfruit leaves. Its years on tradition passed down by the ancestors. We never miss to make that .one can smell the leaf flavour from the idli . Same can be made out of banana leaves as well.

It's so wonderful to see how the humble idli is donning new avatars! Growing up as kids we only had the full moon like rice idli but now the sky is even no longer the limit. These are exciting times to be in. All thanks to these creative entrepreneurs. Well done guy's!

@@manjukg08 The jackfruit leaf one is traditional that I am aware, but the one in the coconut shell is a new discovery for me. For those like me, who live in the North of India, the varieties of Idli is next only to spartan. So anything different from the usual/traditional is a new avatar for us.

Idly is not humble It has a great history going back several centuries It was a premium level food item mainly afforded and used by higher echelons of ancient south India Iddalige was its name in emperor Chalukya Someshwara III period when it gets its first known mention in literature in the magnum opus Manasollasa

@@dcmhsotaeh By humble I was merely referring to the number of basic ingredients that's needed for it's creation and not to it's historical origin or it's importance by any means. I wish you had spent a few more addl seconds to understand what I was trying to convey before lashing out. Seriously! Yahaan munh se nikla nahi, wahaan log talwar lekar khade ho jaate hain.

These videos increase my cravings for more South Indian dishes while not having much affinity to it initially being a Bengali. I've tried Vada, Dosa, Bajji, Bonda, Punuggulu and multiple variations of all these dishes. If I come to Bangalore next time I'll surely try that Donne Biryani, Mangalore buns, Coconut/Jackfruit Idli and other such dishes that happen so in your gourmet food journey. Thanks for all you do Kripal sir. ❤
