You are Absolutely Correct. As you described there are variations over the time. Another point to inform is that if you are KZbinr Restaurant's provide Quality food to impress them. When an ordinary customer goes he/she may not be provided such a quality food (Especially in Non-Veg taste & Oil usee)

Recently tried Arabikkadal as well as Harbour. Arabikadal was really good.. The food was tasty & was reasonably priced. But was quite disappointed with Harbour..Certain veg curries & payasam at the end was great but the seafood was quite disappointing.. I had mathi & karimeen.. mathi fry was ok ok.. karimeen fry was so hard that we could have only someportion of it & was not tasty at all.. I felt even the pricing was a bit on the higher side .. 2 mathis costed 90rs.
