2020 has been a tough year for grocery shopping, as we have had to plan out our grocery trips to be as quick as possible with minimal human interaction. Additionally, plenty of foods that we would normally have no trouble finding have been quickly disappearing from store shelves, while others simply haven’t been making their way to shelves at all, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have all had to make some sacrifices, even when it comes to nostalgic food that we’ve been waiting for the return of for years. Let’s take a look at some foods that basically disappeared in 2020.

I just made a T-bone steak for my bf for his birthday yesterday. Used flour to make a Boston cream pie, as well. 👍

We've had food storage for years but we jacked it WAAYYY up at the beginning. While folks were waiting in line to get into Costco, I was rocking the online ordering, the sales at my small town grocery store and filling my chest freezer with sale items from our local butcher. I just broke into a new 10lb bag of bread flour to make Sicilian pizza a few days ago. I had finished off the instant yeast so I got out our last 2pack of 1lb bricks dated May of 2013. I proofed the yeast and within a few minutes it was bubbling away, thickening up, had that wonderful yeasty smell and I was off to the races. What a nice batch of dough with a great rise...love those mylar bags the yeast is vacuum sealed in. The sad thing is that once this pandemic is over most people will throw out the food they bought and wasted, and won't see the value in keeping a food storage system. The only item that I've had real problems finding is wide mouth canning lids, but I've still got some left.

Didn’t buy food online but did order a few pounds of yeast just in case what I had in the freezer wasn’t good. It was: still is and I had plenty to share. Especially since I’m ketovore and don’t use yeast and flour for myself. Artificial shortages here were created by people literally taking two carts piled high with TP and buying actual cases at a time of the wipes and sanitizer. Less than 2 weeks later everything except Clorox wipes returned to the shelves. Since bottles of Clorox and those blue shop towels were abundant, I just cut the rolls to fit an empty Kirkland wipes container and poured in bleach and some water. Works great.

@@amieinnovascotia3237 This is why it's so important to stock up ahead of time. I haven't bought a single roll of T.P. during this time as I still have almost a 3 year supply left and to leave it for those who need it. I never clear out shelves when stocking up. When I find a sale item that I want to buy I call the store and ask them to order it for me, which they're happy to do. It's a win/win as they appreciate not having their shelves cleared by a single shopper, they don't have to stock it and I get it in cases which are easier to transport and store. I recently did this again, buying 4 cases 28oz cans of Red Gold crushed tomatoes that were on sale for 85cents/can...I stock up to 6 cases. This is the only canned tomato product I buy/stock and I use it for everything from spaghetti to pizza, stews and even tomato soup. Never clear out shelves as it's bad for everyone all the way around...bad for the store, other customers and not good behavior for yourself, which is never good for your soul. Good for you for thinking outside to box with the wipes. Those blue towels are a better option anyway. We haven't had to buy a single bottle of bleach, wipes, hand sanitizer or even N95 masks as I had stocked up on all of these a few years ago. My wife thought I was a little nuts for wanting to do this about a decade ago but very quickly got on board when she could simply go "shopping" downstairs when she was "out" of something rather than having to go to the store and the savings are significant. It was also pretty nice to have all of our shelving all ready to go as well as having a chest freezer already.

Yeah, We ate just fine and healthier through 2020. People just don't know how to cook. I always think it is funny every weather event or SHTF moment people buy all the things that are unhealthy (like high sodium canned goods), Beans they don't know how to prepare and pasta, and all the milk and bread. Yet they forget that tortillas last longer than fluffy white bread. They forget that honey is eternal on the shelf even though it gets grainy and hard. Butter and oils gets sold out but you can still get a tub of lard for pie dough or basic cooking grease. They buy all the garden section farming supplies when that 5lb bag of potatoes from the produce section can be planted and five you 20 lbs at harvest.

I still cannot view toilet paper as essential, unless you have no water and soap, or other disinfectant. Just think about it...You can wipe with paper, which ALWAYS leaves residue that stinks and is infectious, or you can wash and thoroughly clean the area. @@zonacrs You're absolutely correct. My dad also made sure his five daughters learned how to check their oil, change tires and DIY random house projects. My two brothers learned all that and more. Biggest thing that still annoys me is the quality of the meat we get now. It may be back in stock but they are packing the ground stuff with fat now. Used to get 95 to 97% fat free ground turkey , now it is like 85 to 90% fat free. Last ground beef I bought was 80% fat free or 1/5 of it was fat. When I tried to grill it I got a major grease fire on the grill. They are stretching their supplies by cutting the quality of the meat with fat. Sadly I went for the fat free stuff for a reason and have had to look elsewhere. Also the thickness of the cuts has degraded so they can look the same in packages but be a quarter to a third lighter. Who wants a porkchop less then a half inch thick? Sooner or later may need to get a chest freezer and get a quarter or half cow from a butcher to have quality meat.

Canada's pronunciation of "been" is actually correct but sounds funny to Americans who pronounce it "bin". Canadian English is more closely related to Britain's English. They probably pronounce "says" as "saze" too (a British pronunciation). Americans pronounce it, "sez". But the most noticeable thing (to me at least) is the way Northerners pronounce "sorry". They pronounce it "soary". And "worry" is "wary". It's a little distracting.

yeah and it can be made from "all purpose flour"...but really folks we are so spoiled in the USA, this is life as normal in many parts of the world...you just make do with what is available, here we throw out more food then we eat.

I didn't run out of meat, I've still got three out of five deer. As far as the shortages go they were created by the media.

Scarfed by us keto/carnivore types, perhaps? Isnt is strange though that chicken livers that were available all the time in every grocery store years ago, disappeared quietly about 10 years ago? They’re hard to find here but fortunately I sniffed out a boutique meat provider who will let me buy them 20 lbs at a time.

How self absorbed are you? You seriously think that because your stores had certain items that it means everyone in the country could find those same items? Get your head out of your ass. I haven’t been able to find the soup we like in months. Flour was fine for awhile but it’s disappearing again. Stop assuming your situation is the standard for everyone.

Isn't vegan foods plant based? What's going to happen when farmers are not able to plant crops next year and the only foods left are non-vegan. I guess vegans will get their senses back and eat like real humans.
