You might consider posting videos for people to list items found that are "Made/grown in America". The more we begin buying locally grown items & items made in the US, the more people will start making/selling & buying these products. This will help bring prices down and has the added benefit of supporting US economy.

I have been stockpiling items for awhile now and I will be buying a deep freezer and purchasing half a cow. I just recently started a bartering network on Facebook..I would suggest that everyone buy enough seeds to last for two years.

I noticed not all beef tastes the same. Each farm feeds different foods. If possible I would get a sample from several before purchasing half a cow. I found several I don't like locally. Some have way too much fat.

People need to invest in a food vacuum sealer and purchase meats. Vacuum sealed meats last longer than zip lock freezer bags. You purchase 1 from Aldi,Walmart and Amazon for $15+. Weekly, I go a buy meat marked for clearance. It's getting cold, and you'll need sustenance. Honestly, by now, people should have enough dry goods on hand.

@@davidk8808 Again: vacuum sealers use plastic bags. Plastic bags put plastic in your food. Plastic you eat causes heart disease and cancer, according to a really thorough study that was in the news just a few days ago. There is a vacuum sealer that can be used on glass jars - I’m sorry that I don’t have a link for that - and using glass for long-term storage is MUCH safer than plastic bags. (It’s a true vacuum seal system, it’s not like canning where you have to boil the jars and all that stuff.)

I’m sorry, please remove this comment if it’s not applicable, but there are several items that aren’t food related that I wanted to share because it was important for our family. According to a list by an economist I saw on the Associated Press, tires and household appliances will rise as well. It’s a good time of years to take advantage of those sales! I also stocked up on our vitamins and other supplements because some companies use ingredients from China and this may make their prices go up. We are going on a no-buy for 2025 and are saving as much as we can. Please shop calmly and responsibly. Make lists of all of your important items.

Of course, the cost of the clothing and accessories from foreign fashion design houses will likely go up a lot. That little Chanel bag, pair of Gucci loafers or Hermes scarf could double in cost. Thank you I missed that part and it certainly is! 😂 If I actually had to have Hermes or Chanel, I could buy some of it, but it would come out of my retirement fund and I'd rather enjoy what little is left of my retirement considering what tariffs nshit are going to do. I loaded up on a used bread maker, a used air fryer, one new and one used Nikon camera body, two used Nikkor lenses, camera bags to fit those, some expensive oil paint, and all are tax deductible studio investments so I can bury myself in photography and art and ignore the world. I don't really want to see it burn. Plus 100 lb of artisan flours and a ton of butter so I can make a lot of real pies and bread. And whiskey, lots of whiskey!

Our tariffs were met with their tariffs - no one bought the crops (which, unlike merchandise, cannot sit forever on a shelf to wait for better economic trends). Result was not positive.

How about the tariffs that biden has recently expanded on? Just look at what Biden has done. We’ve seen many administrations on both sides of the aisle at least in my 60+ year lifetime impose tariffs and prices always go up for the consumer. Another area that people may want to look at are those items that more costly staples in their current budget. When you think of tariffs applied to petroleum imports, you have to take into consideration the end products made with them such as plastics, packaging, etc. So, while your laundry detergent itself isn’t more expensive, the packaging may become more expensive. In the case of China, the majority of our circuitry parts and electronic components are imported from China. A flat screen TV may be made here, but the circuitry comes from there. While not all people need to make big ticket purchases at this time, for those who do and are on the fence about it, if their budget allows, this would be a good time.

Unless I read the articles wrong, I think the stipulation was to secure the borders for Mexico and Canada and that has been done so I don't think there will be a tariffs on those countries. As for China, you named just about every food group and food item there is. For me, I'm going to do the same things I have been doing. Shop the sales and put up everything I can with what money I can afford. I can things up and dehydrate alot. I can only do what I can do.

Lentils are mostly imported from Canada. Tomatoes products will go up as we import something like 90% of them from Mexico. Conversely, we do not need to worry about corn. We make enough corn. Milk should also be fine, and price increases are mostly due to the bird flu running through the cows. And get your beans now because a lot of beans come from Mexico.

I'm not concerned with food items, most are also grown here in the US. I avoid buying any food from China due to the filthy conditions over there. I'd concentrate on small electronics, clothing, housewares. I have three coffee makers stocked and several skillets and good knives, flashlights, lanterns. Other than those, buy some freeze dried foods now. I started in 2008 and the prices have gone up so much, it's insane!

Coffee has had an extreme increase this past week. My philosophy with China is I eat nothing from them. Why? If they can't drink their own water due to pollution and is unsafe why would you want anything grown there?

If you can't afford freeze dried you can get a dehydrator, and dehydrate your own purchases or what you grow. I dehydrated an entire summer's worth of hot peppers and they have been amazing, although you run the risk of pepper spraying your house, so you need to run the dehydrator near a vent fan! I also did all my overabundance of tomatoes, and several Costco size bags of navel oranges, which are amazing!

I would rather dehydrate my own and know that it's done properly and that the food was legitimately safe when I put it in the dehydrator! Thanks for confirming strawberries, I was going to do some this summer but waited too long to get the dehydrator. But next year watch out, I live a couple of hours away from the biggest strawberry fields in the country.

I think there are some considerations that you should mention. Our economy is strongly oil driven. Despite tariffs, the cost of food should remain the same or go down if the promise to drill happens. Absolutely everything we buy is moved with diesel. Lower fuel equals less money to travel to your location. It may take time for the tariffs to do what is intended but I'm hoping they achieve what is intended and that we see a little relief by way of cheaper fuel.

I am sorry to agree. It feels like the USA has (overall) decided they want it to be every man/woman/child for himself. I am now focused solely on my own immediate family and keeping us above water. I sent a few cans of food stuffs with my grandchildren to school for their food drive. (I wanted them to feel like they could participate.) But, not one penny to any charities, no money for my (former) church, extremely limited shopping at Wamart or Amazon in favor of Winco. I won't be visiting Florida, but instead going to CA. Not volunteering locally anymore because I live in the reddest state in the US. They set the rules, now we all get to live by them. The effects of tariffs on American foods is that everything will go up due to marketing. For example, during Covid 19, meat foods and related foods went up due to demand. When demand exceeded supply, people turned to vegetables for affordability. What happened? Vegetables went up. Cabbages previously 29 - 49 cents a pound skyrocketed to 2 dollars a pound. Beans went from 49-69 cents a bag is now 1.99-4.99 a bag. Once the price goes up, they almost never come down. Why? If the customer stop purchasing the product due to high cost, the market simply discontinues it. See Walmart. People boycotted Black Friday. They raised their regular prices. The market takes, it does not gives. The house always wins.

I believe that the United States Constitution makes it very clear that Congress has to pass a bill to raise taxes and the President can sign it or Congress can override the President's veto by a 2/3 majority vote in The House of Representatives and the Senate. What I'm getting at is the President by Executive Order can't raise taxes by Executive Order. That includes tariffs, because Tariffs are taxes. I hope someone will go to Federal Court and challenge all Tariffs put in by Executive Order. I don't care who the President is, no President should be able to put Tariffs on without Congress. I am not in favor of Tariffs because it artificially raises the cost of goods the consumer buys. It also will encourage companies to go to robots alot sooner than what they would to try to cut cost. The last time Trump put Tariffs on other countries put Tariffs on our grain exports and that crashed the grain market here. The government had to subsidies farmers or they were going to go out of business. Tariffs also create trade wars and that could lead to regular war.

Now that President Musk has killed the new bill to keep the gov open (husband is DOD) it will be hard to keep buying extras until we have some kind of stability. I believe Trump had introduced tariffs during his first presidency back in 2016, so this is not a brand new strategy. Cost of living back during his first term was a lot more affordable than these past 4 years with Biden. You have missed so much. First, it is not cost effective to ship eggs from China. Eggs come from local producers because of breakage and being highly perishable. You can't grow coffee beans, tea and tropical fruits in the United States. It takes a banana tree two years to produce fruit and, other than Hawaii, you don't have much of a chance of getting a plant to the fruit production stage. We don't have the right climate, the right soils to raise many of the things we just stroll into a store and buy without a second thought. We don't raise enough rice for our needs and the same is true for other crops. This is why those things are imported. If you want to grow more than you might like to halt development being built on farmland. That alone will make builders and realtors have a fit. Then you will need to harvest those crops. Most Americans don't want to work as field pickers. It is hot, dirty work and it pays poorly. I know, I work in agriculture. Labor cost, fertilizer cost, the cost of equipment. Have any idea what a harvester cost? A fortune. Trump's last tariffs cost farmers dearly to the point that he paid us money as compensation for products that we couldn't sell when our sources dried up in his trade wars. You should be worried about those tariffs because toilet paper will be the least of your worries.
