Shiori, as in Novella, pre-dates her, and is (obviously) still active. She started with a group before Kizuna Ai, around 2014, but they lost their channel due to a merger with Mirai Akari in 2017, and all their past content has just been scrubbed as of Feb 2024, the group members had to make separate channels for individual content since the merger. Her alt/PL was active until she started as Shiori so she never really stopped Vtubing for 10 years now.

I started knowing vtubers ever since Kizuna Ai But because there weren’t much translators back then, I stopped for awhile Until a surge of Holo Fantasy and Hololive Gamers clips started popping up on Facebook out of all things, soon after Holo Fantasy debuted not long And that’s when I found Korone, and fell in love with her personality and how fun her streams are. Even went and learned Japanese to understand her more. She will always be my kami oshi, and this clips just makes me appreciate her more Always remember guys, 推しは推せるの時推せ。 When you can support your oshi, do it while you can do exactly that, they’re not here forever even though they’re forever in our hearts.

10:06 the spicy part is that July 2019 was just 2 months after her debut, and Korone's success was anything but certain at that point. She started at ~50k subscribers and it took her until the end of the year to get to 100k. Her big explosion in popularity only began in early 2020, when she went from 100k to 1 million in just a few months. Today it's easy to see her debut as part of her weirdness that makes her one of the biggest vtubers ever, but at that time it was still a fresh and probably painful memory. She genuinely bled many viewers during the debut because it was so awkward and scuffed. At a time when just being in Hololive did not guarantee a decent viewership like it does today. Korone's (and overall Hololive's) success is truly the stuff of legends.

I only got into hololive a few months after Myth debuted. I didn't even start watching JP talents until late 2020. This is the first big glimpse I've had into older vtuber streams, and I did not know it was that different. I guess by Myth they mostly streamlined their process for debut streams and such. Another surprise is how different everyone's voices are. Mio's and Okayu's sound so relaxed, and Fubuki reminded me of debut Baelz. I guess it's time to dig into some pre-pandemic VODs.
