The Oakland A's. What a franchise! Not sure if you've heard, but these guys like to win on a budget. They have their competitive windows, and then they trade everyone and start over. Because of this, it's easy to forget how good the good times are during the bad. One good time was the case of the 2012 Oakland Athletics, a rookie superteam featuring the likes of rookie Yoenis Cespedes, Josh Donaldson, Jarrod Parker, and Ryan Cook. Funnily enough, none of them won 2012 Rookie of the Year.
I'll also talk to a couple rookie players on the team, specifically Sean Doolittle and Travis Blackley. That's right old Foolish Baseball, creator of the MLB video essay series Baseball Bits, will be conducting interviews in this one. Funny hat and all. Who knows? Maybe there will even be a surprise cameo from Jake Mintz and Jordan Schusterman of the Cespedes Family BBQ.
There will also be a brief discussion of the Oakland A's relocation rumors. Are the Las Vegas A's viable? I'm not so sure. Personally, I'll side with the fans who organized the reverse boycott game rather than John Fisher. Finally, I promise I won't say Moneyball in this one. WAIT A SEC-

It is abandonment... Especially ever since the Raiders left the A's slogan has been "rooted in Oakland." With that slogan appearing in billboards all around Oakland and the East Bay and in an the advertisements for the A's up until this year. This whole ordeal has been a slap in the face followed by a spit in the face. If it does end up being over, I'm not even sure what team I'll end up switching to or if I'll just not pick one and only follow the MLB from a distance.

The 2012 Oakland A's were one of my favorite teams ever. So many memorable characters from that team. It wasnt just the rookies that made the team interesting. Even the veterans were entertaining, like Coco Crisp, Josh Reddick, Bartolo Colon, Brandon Moss, Jonny Gomes, Grant Balfour and Brandon Inge. It was just a weird collection of cast-offs and underdogs.

I was 8 in 2012, the year before I had gotten into watching the team a bit but 2012 was the first year I really watched. I'll never forget running home from school to watch game 162 and turning the TV on right as Hamilton dropped the ball. My 8 year old self was the happiest I could ever be because even if I didn't fully understand division races and playoffs I somehow knew I had just watched a magical season. Going to games today with my sell the team shirt and jerseys with players long before traded breaks my heart. Despite being fond of the Rangers teams that were bested by these A's in back-to-back years, the 2012 A's are one of my favorite teams. Apart from all the rookies, the A's only had 4 position players qualify for the batting title, 2 by margins of 5 PA or fewer. In a time of ever-expanding bullpens, they used regular platoons at both DH (Smith/Gomes) and 1B (Moss/Carter), which is basically unheard of in modern baseball. Throw in the game in which Brandon Inge drove in the go-ahead run while playing with a dislocated shoulder just for a bit of extra fun.

It doesn't matter how long a team has been in your city or how many championships or fans the team has, there is always a chance that they will leave. Completely agree. Now that Dan Snyder has (finally) been knocked off his throne in Washington; Cincinnati's owner/ownership group is one of (if not The) the biggest a**holes in sports. As proud, and historically significant, as that club is; it's a little sad how the Reds of had a long history of owner's that were... let's just say, less than stellar examples of human beings. Cincinnati, Oakland, Miami, the list goes on (*cough* Montreal)... the players on those franchises deserve better. And the fans of said ball clubs deserve WAY better. As a lifelong Cub fan, it is hard for me to root for Cincy. Though, they have always had players I like (God bless Joey Votto). But, as a baseball fanatic, who grew up in the late 80's and early 90's, it is impossible for me to not have nostalgic memories of both Oakland and the Reds. Even, however secretly, cheer them on this year.

When I think baseball, I think the 2012 A's. The walk-offs, the home runs led by Josh Reddick with 32, and winning the division at the end. This was the 1st of a few years where I watched the MLB closely and almost every A's game. I appreciate the video. Even though I don't enjoy baseball as much as other sports now, I recently went to what is likely my final OAKLAND A's game ever at Comerica Park against the Tigers(since I live in Detroit now). Sort of a last hurrah to see them representing the Bay Area. It was a fun time and I will certainly never forget the 2012 A's!💚💛

It was in 2012 that I started to follow baseball. Because I live in Utah, I initially tied myself to the Rockies. However, that team in Oakland kept catching my attention. I knew about their budget because of a movie I'd seen recently, but I don't want to give all the credit to the movie. That team was so fun that I stayed a fan of the franchise until somewhere in the middle of last year when it was clear it never be the same. Thank you for this video and the ultimate message.

The only good memories I have of my father involve The A's. He lives a few miles from The Oakland Coliseum. When I was a teen, it was Canseco, McGwire, Eck, Stew, Ricky, Weiss, Hendu and so many more. Seeing The A's in such a state makes me want to cry.
