Foot Guards Massed Bands in The Mall - 9 June 2012

The Massed Bands of the five regiments of Her Majesty's Foot Guards march off Horse Guards Parade and down The Mall towards Buckingham Palace after The Colonel's Review of Trooping the Colour on Saturday 9th June 2012.
The marches: The final part of 'Northumbrian Airs' arranged by Trevor Sharpe then 'Colchester Castle' by Earl Brigham followed by 'Namur' by W.V.Richards and then the start of 'Green Glens of Antrim'.

The march is called 'Namur' by W.V.Richards

Namur was actually written by Kenneth Alford, as a favour for fellow student bandmaster, who was incapable of the task! It has all the hallmarks of an Alford march.

'Namur' is such a good piece of music; too bad it is played so infrequently.

It's called the "State Walk" although, all Drum Majors should be able to carry out the movement.

Why does the closest front trombone have a sword? Surely that would mean he was an officer, but they don't have commissioned musicians, only drum/band majors?

Not sure I like the non-symetrical way the pipes have fallen in. Last time there wasn't enough pipes to fill the rear rank, the drums went in the middle.

I agree with TVStix: rear rank looks awful with asymmetric pipers and drummers. There's no point having pipers playing at this fast march tempo - the drum beatings don't work properly!

Its called regulation pace, if drum beatings don't work then modify them lets get rid of this stupid pipe band pace we see at highland gatherings and pipe band contests if pipers/drummers aren't up to it then get back to the practice room. .
