This has to be hands-down the best instructional video on KZbin for SRT Ascending. Professionally filmed and edited, no extended intro, no bs - just great content. Thank you! Jolly good show mate!

What’s the piece of equipment you have the highest piece that is like your brake system I guess

In our industry we call that the climbing "device". The climbing device I'm using in this video is the Petzl ZigZag + the Petzl Chicane. A quick google search with those words will bring up a world of detail. Thanks for watching! - David

Very cool! Hey, can you direct me to where to get a decent ascending kit? I am just starting out and am looking at the less expensive options, but I am not sure how cheap is too cheap and also if it is worth it to just get the best kit or is the second best also just as good? I am just wanting to do some arbourist work on the side for now and see how it goes.

Thanks for tuning in! I'm not aware of any 2nd best ascending kits pricing wise - they're all too damn expensive if you ask me. That said most folks pick up a foot ascender first. I recommend a CT Right Foot Ascender (the orange one). All other foot ascenders on the market slip out or require finicky stances & adjustments. After a few weeks/months on that folks typically add what we call a floating knee ascender from Climbing Technology - this is called a S.A.K.A. & is widely considered the best knee ascender on the market. All knee ascenders are pricey but the S.A.K.A. is worth it. If you can't afford it at first I'd simply do without a knee ascender until you're ready to purchase the S.A.K.A. Finally you'll want to get or make some sort of neck tether to tend your system (I made the one I use in the video). If you ever find yourself near Chapel Hill, NC let me know and I'll be happy to show you some tips & tricks in person. I hope this helps!

@@thetreeist You mentioned going without a knee ascender for a while if you're trying to save a buck, what do you use instead of it?
