The United Kingdom conducted 12 major nuclear weapons tests in Australia between 1952 and 1957. These explosions occurred at the Montebello Islands, Emu Field and Maralinga.

This was maralinga or emu flat in south Australia,some suburbs of Adelaide still have some mild radiation when fallout accidentally drifted over populated areas when an unexpected wheather change occurred

The entire city of Adelaide was routinely blanketed with radioactive fallout. That, and the fallout that fell upon grazing pastures, the grass of which was eaten by cattle, whose milk contained highly concentrations of radioactive isotopes that was, in turn, ingested by thousands of South Australian school children in an era of compulsory milk consumption at a school. The British also detonated hydrogen bombs at these sites (without informing the Australian Government), and clouds of fallout drifted across Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney. No footage of the explosion. The cameraman's sole purpose for being there. What was he doing? Taking a leak? And missed it?
