hey bro! its a year later, however you seem to know your stuff. im playing d-end, and i always get caught in a block which means i cant hit the rb if he shoots towards the outside. any suggestions? im in a race with another guy to see who is going to win the last d-end position.
@JuanTurks272 жыл бұрын
@@rosso5072 so are you saying the tackle is reaching your outside shoulder?
@rosso50722 жыл бұрын
@@JuanTurks27 no, my coach said i should engage the tackle for 2 seconds, then proceed to outside. he's reaching my inside shoulder. it was a new way of coaching, as im used to doing my best to get him off, and to stop the outside run. my main con is i cant figure a way off the tackle in order to get the guy running on the outside.
@JuanTurks272 жыл бұрын
@@rosso5072 so I played DE too, the best advice I can give you is line up where your inside shoulder is in line with the middle of his chest, have your inside hand down in your stance, on your first step don’t step farther than your other foot and make it as quick as possible. if your coach wants you to rush off the edge it’s all about hand fighting, keeping your feet moving and keeping a low pad level. When you shoot your hands to make contact, hit with your inside hand in the lineman’s chest and use your outside hand to either knock his hands off you or rip his shoulder down to swim or whatever move you prefer. If you can have your inside arm fully extended with you pads at his midsection, you won. Just don’t stop your feet and make sure to stay wide to catch the back on the outside. I’d look up some outside contain videos to get a visual

As a high school football coach, i can honestly say i have never ran this style of drill with my boys. we run a 5 out look (basically air raid) every down, and it works. our workouts are mainly running, and beating defensive formations. i have never ran any physical drills to this extent. this also has worked surprisingly well with my defensive boys as well!

Ok.. 1st: the QB should be over the far left bag. 2nd: have 3 gaps A,B,C. Huddle call the gap so the O-Line know the gap to block for and where RB will run through. Get rid of the right bag! This makes the D-Line and LB have to read and fight pressure like in a real game. LB starts over the bag too if MLB or B gap if its a 2 LBs set or off the DE if LBs is a OLB in a 4-3. Make it realistic. This here way to easy for the D players. Straight hand offs in the B gap every time teaches them very little. Might as well just run 1 on 1s.

I don't really understand this drill. The linemen are incredibly separated to the point where it's nothing close to a live action scenario. In addition, both the offensive and defensive lineman seem to have no real purpose in the drill other than a head to head collision. Meaning, the offensive linemen don't seem to be creating a hole (because it's already there) and the defensive linemen don't seem to be focusing on the ball carrier at all (likely, because the hole is created before the play begins). What you are left with is a very unlikely 1 on 1 collision with both he RB and LB getting about 5 yards of clear running space before they meet (again, very unlikely). I know this is old, but it came on my feed and just my two cents from seeing it.
