He is certainly a great. Between he and Messi, there is little between them in terms of statistics but there is a big difference in what they bring to a team. Messi needs the right players around him but with them he brings borderline superhuman close ball control, balance, pace and precision with all of his shots, runs and passes that mesmerises both defenders and spectators. Ronaldo brings an unparalleled goal threat from anywhere in the final third with either foot or his head, regardless of teammates as long as they provide service. He's not as mesmerising but he's just as effective with his combination of pace, precision, power, and timing. Ronaldo also brings a determination and an unrelenting drive to improve both himself and his team that is unmatched by anyone else I have ever seen. Who is better? That comes down to the individual, I wouldn't say Messi is definitively better but I will say I find Messi more enjoyable to watch. Ronaldo is undoubtedly a great.
