Performance wise he surely has plummeted but somehow remains sharp in the box, still has a decent cross in him, passing and link up play is still okay, he has maintained his enormous leap, he still is in good physique, he can still be very useful, just not as well as the Ronaldo of the old. Today's Ronaldo clearly would flourish in a system that crosses the ball heavily, circa 3-peat Madrid. He had Marcelo, Kroos, Bale, Carvajal, Vazquez, Modric and even Ramos spamming crosses into the box all game, he would maybe get to the end of 4 out of 15 crosses, but end up with a brace or hattrick! Their gameplan was that simple. It helped they had people very good in the air roaming around the box like flies, Bale, Benzema, Ramos, Pepe, Varane and Casemiro were nightmares in the air too, waiting to pounce on the crosses that don't land to Ronaldo. This is the only path Ronaldo makes sense as a starter in the National team, not putting him in a system that will demand him to press like a hungry dog, that is not what he is good at. The other option is to bench Ronaldo, I am not sure how Ronaldo would respond to that, I guess we will see. All I know is if Ronny has a good Euros and the team somehow manages to be the first actual golden generation in forever to deliver, he is gonna push for the 2026 World Cup as the final nail in a coffin to his long ass career! It would be sour if Portugal disappoints at the Euros, again.

Many people will say that messi is better than ronaldo by watching prime messi's highlights, but what people will not understand that ronaldo is might possibly the greatest poacher/box to box player of all time. While I agree messi is a fantastic goal scorer , ronaldo is the perfect example of what you call demon on the field. Cristiano is player that has all the combined traits that a footballer should have whether it is heading, dribbling, shooting, etc. He is menace inside the box and chances are if you give him enough space, 9/10 times he will end up scoring.

Just for you to know ronaldo at 11 or 12 left madeira and went to sporting cp academy one of the best academies in the world, he was regarded since early as a very talented player. The people that think ronaldo is just hardwork dont know anything, to reach this level you dont just work hard you have the combination of both(hardwork and talent), if it was just hardwork we would see many players reaching ronaldo level becaude there are many that work hard but simply dont have the talent to reach the top professional level.
