Margarita is such an inspiration. I can't help but notice how Russian rhythmic gymnasts, despite being the winners in everything since 1998, always seem so humble, achievable and down to earth. Maybe it's because Irina Viner tells every champion, 'when you're in the podium you're a queen, but when you come down you are nobody'.

I already watched it on your site. Let me just say how happy I am that you made this. Thanks so much! It's crazy how nice Rita really is, I mean, she's so beautiful, kind, tries to speak english, not showing her crazy skills to not embarrass the other one, and of course SO hardworking and talented. She just is so nice! And considering that she almost died for those Olympics, it's even more special. She is the one who convinced me that perfect people really exist. I just love her.

Mariana eb Rita worked crazy hard for this. In a recent interview, Amina Zaripova, her personal coach, said that doctors told her once that Rita's blood was black. Not red, not dark red, but black. Because she was training so hard. Also, Rita had high fever just days before the Olympics, and she couldn't take any medicaments as it would have been considered as doping. She worked through, trained nevertheless. Exhausted. You see now how hard they really train? When her coach was a gymnast back in the 1990s, she didn't have medals at the Olympics. She seriously thought about suicide after. The Olympics mean everything. That's why I think RG is the toughest sport that exists so far. Because it's so subjective, yet so demanding.

I have to add that I love that Margarita got to experience celebration in her efforts as rhythmic gymnastics is essentially a solo sport. Thanks Heather for being genuinely encouraging.

I think the main difference between these two sports is that rhythmic gymnastics is 100% choreographed and the only improvisation necessary is if you or a team member make a mistake. But on the other hand, football is all about versatility, strategy, and endurance.
