We messed up when we got Jose but that's on the Board and Woodward, we suck at transfers that's something Jose and LVG complained about, Jose got those players because of his familiarity with the agents not cause of our transfer expects who failed to bring in Kroos, Thiago, Baines during Moyes, Saul, Vertonghen,Fabregas,Pedro, Ramos, Hummels, Kante,Higuain, Lewandoski, Alves,Ramos etc under LVG or Maguire, Sandro, Ramos, Brozovic, Perisic etc with Jose. Fergie took over a team that was floundering and was about to be relegated. He also wasn't that backed in the transfers immediately, but he still managed to improve each year. You cannot compare his scenario with the rest as Moyes took over a title winning squad, Van Gaal was fully backed in the transfer window and got all of his targets, and Mourinho was backed in his first 2 seasons in the transfers as well. United is a totally different club than it was back then. They still value a long term project (looking at Ole), but they need to see progress because there are more money involved from sponsors and deals, not to mention reputations. At least with Ole, you can clearly see that there's progress, despite the lack of trophies. While the other three all took United backwards. This video speaks directly to the problem Solskajer currently has at United and shows his failure to address that problem. As pointed out during LVG's tenure, United we able to be an effective pressing team. Due in part to the spatial distancing of the players that Van Gaal wanted during the buildup. Players by nature of their close proximity to each other to retain possession could, upon losing possession, immediately go into pressing mode. Solskjaer is from the old school United days. He believes and has turned United into a forward passing high risk high reward attacking team. That's all well and good but that means he uses the entire field to attack. Pobga finding a streaking Fernades, Lindelof finding a streaking Rashford and Fernandes finding a streaking...anybody. That does not bode well for a press. United don't keep the ball long enough to be called a high possession team. They'd rather score or create chances with 5 of fewer passes. That means they are never set up to press. Add that to the fact that Solskjaer, Mckenna and Carrick apparently aren't doing a good enough job of working on the press during training and the results speak for themselves. Solskjaer has a team with individual talent that could allow him to play a less attacking style and still win games. It seems he's so focus on the attacking end that that he's neglected the defensive side of the ball. Results, 1 clean sheet since May or April of last year. That's terrible. In order for him to get out of the mess he's create he will need to change players and modify their style. He's never going to be a high possession patterned play guy but he's got to find a way of marrying the "play it forward" philosophy with a more defensive edge. Clean sheets are a priority. If he doesn't figure it out, he should be removed.

Hmm... I think the big difference between Ferguson's time & his successors - patience. Let us not forget, Ferguson had 6 seasons (11th, 2nd, 11th, 13th, 6th & 2nd; 1 FA Cup; 1 Cup Winner's Cup; 1 League Cup) before he achieved the successful Man Utd team. While those after him: Moyes - 1 season (7th; 1 Community Shield) Giggs - 1 month Van Gaal - 2 seasons (4th, 5th; 1 FA Cup) Mourinho - 2 seasons (2nd, 6th; 1 UEFA Europa League ; 1 League Cup; 1 Community Shield) Ole - 2 seasons (3rd, 2nd) Compare this to Liverpool's Klopp: 6th, 8th, 4th, 4th, 2nd, Champion; 1 UCL

Ole is slowly building a team that takes care of itself while on the pitch. He asks players to look to themselves for finding victories, which people misunderstand as individual brilliance. Its a type of football resembling SAF's philosophy. Ole takes a very off-hand approach in game management, all the while encouraging his players to find solutions themselves. This has its obvious downfalls, no doubt, but it worked for SAF. There's no way it won't for ole too..

In my opinion, United Football Philosophy is an attacking football with youngsters from academy. Whichever the best, either counter attacking or possesion football, United will always attack. United need to always has a great middle structure : a great striker, a dribbler, a robust defensive midfield, a strong centre back and a big goalkeeper. Now it's lacking a figure like roy keane in midfield the best option now is mcTominay or transform VDB to be better at defense since he already has great passing range like roy keane.

Not having a CDM is no excuse to not win anything with this United side. Mourinho won trophies and finished 2nd with a FAR worse team and, in hindsight, terrible players. This United team is one of the best in Europe on paper. If you add a CDM in this team, someone like Pep or Klopp wins the title with no sweat considering the depth we also have. Ole will be exposed this year, he relies too much on individual brilliance and individual brilliance will not win you trophies. How he's managed at every club he's been at, defensive deep, compact (mid/low block), then hit a long-ball to a (target-man CF), flick to to (wide-forward), to cut in and shoot, have a (defensive winger), on the other side, have enough numbers back, if a team has sustained pressure on us, or they have a corner, intercept, and counter-attack, scenario based, not a systematic attacking movements, usually likes defensive full-backs, but has worked well, with attacking full-backs (Cole, Maicon, Marcelo, Ivanovic, Valencia), more defensive full-back (Zanetti, Vertonghen, Azpi, Arbeloa), in the midfield, 2 hard-working midfielders, with a more, attacking, maverick playmaker/SS, (Sneijder, Ozil, Lampard), Pogba was supposed to do that role, with the work-men, more defensive minded Chelsea 1st stint: (Makalele/Essien), Inter: (Cambiasso/Stankovic), Real: (Khedira/Lass Diarra/Alonso (Regista), Chelsea 2nd stint: (Matic/Ramaires/Fabregas (Regista), Man Utd: (Matic/Fred/Herrera), Spurs: (Hojibjerg/Sissoko), but they didn't have the attacking mid, that's how he's won throughout his career, he doesn't coach his players, never has, and Rui Faria, from his past assistants, styles are archaic, in the modern game, and he hasn't replaced Rui well

Maybe because there weren't any progress in the process? Moyes took a title winning team and took the team backwards. LVG declined in his 2nd season despite being backed in the transfer, and Mourinho showed no progress, even though United got 2nd in his second season. Ole on the other hand, you can actually tell that the team is improving and is actually getting their identity back. Also, fergie took over a team that was about to get relegated.
