Although its clear that gravenberch is Liverpool’s x factor, their second has to be szoboszlai. You know what their attackers can do, their fullbacks, cb’s, alisson and mac allister. Szboszlai on the other hand, is a bit of a wierd one. He proved himself to be useful last year but, like gravenberch, lost focus quite alot during games. A number of reasons contributed to this. With him starting as a deeper position last year, he wasn’t as effective in attack. But, by placing him further forward, not only do you still get his insane pressing ability, his creativity now comes out way often which allow him to stamp his authority more on games. I’m excited to see how much more him and gravenberch can improve under slot now that they seem to have found their place in a system that genuinely seems perfect for them

To be fair Szoboszlai could have had 10-12 more assists last season if Nunez, Jota and Salah didn't mess up their shots on goal. Slot's double pivots are 6 and 8. It's either Grav or Macca act as 6, depend on what needed. In this game Macca is mostly the 6, Grav is the 8. And Slot's no. 10 is a super dynamic engine who fill wherever needed. You can check Szobo heat map. So it's not the traditional playmaker but he will be the playmaker when needed. Such set up need all the three MFs to be able to read the game really well, otherwise it will be disaster. A lot of discussion and one to one coaching. They have lots of regular meeting, the coaches and players. It's why the transition seems seamless. People saying Slot inherit great squad as if the result now is taken for granted. The high fullbacks were very significant (as Slot himself said). I’m not sure a double pivot 3-2-5 would be much better in that situation with Slot’s midfield being so mobile and reading the press so well. Instead, I would’ve liked a fullback to stay lower and probably invert to provide passing opportunities to beat the second line of the press. You keep the wide opportunity on the other side to draw the pressing unit and then switch. Liverpool did that with Szobo falling back, can be done with a FB too, especially with the staggered midfield triangle ETH went for.

There was nothing wrong with Ten Hag’s structure. Some players weren’t clinical in their play. They got opportunities to score and missed all. Casemiro and Maino lost possession and they couldn’t defend the attack.

But I think Peps new system will unlock this defensive shape, i mean its a single pivot, two 8s and a 10, if you cut off passing lanes you are blocking one player with 4

It'll be interesting to see how Slot fares against Arteta and Pep, and how Liverpool perform in the UCL
@i_am_bijit2 ай бұрын
Which team do you see Klopp going in the immediate future? Jokes aside, yes his real test will surely be against Pep and Arteta. ETH isn't exactly a yardstick to judge Slot.
@Poussyeater-w5e2 ай бұрын
@@i_am_bijit aww shucks mate, I didn't see that😃 If he comes out on top against City and Arsenal, Liverpool could have a very good season indeed. Yeah beating ETH isn't exactly a milestone, but with the signings he's got you'd think United would be doing WAY better
@i_am_bijit2 ай бұрын
@@Poussyeater-w5e completely agree. Slot is doing a commendable job and I see them fighting hard for the title, whereas, the same cannot be said about United.

The difference between United and Liverpool currently are the attitude of players. Any formation requires discipline and United have too many players who are not discipline enough. The 4 2 4 narrow shape is great in cutting off chances from centre but also has the disadvantage of space for the fullbacks. To counter this,the wingers need to tuck in to let the fullback have the ball which triggers press. But the problem United have is that Rashford and Garnacho arent good at these. Amad is way better presser but Ten hag didnt play him. Bruno isnt disciplined enough as well to prevent passing lanes. The two pivots also joins the press to win the ball high but both if them arent great at doing that. The press if it is bypassed,szoboslai was there to recieve the ball in half space all the time. It was a gamble but Liverpool knew United cant press with aggression. United will never be a top team with Bruno,Casemiro,Rashford. They cant be. They are good individual players but arent great team players. Coach is at fault aswell,i guess more than even Casemiro. Everybody saw szoboslai,he somehow didnt. I have never seen him change things inbetween games and that shows how incapable he is tactically. His press conference are something which annoys me nore. I hope he does well but the signs arent good. His favouritism and rigidity areannoying.

The problem is that too many MU players are bad passers and lack good first touch control. Even Mazraoui, who is definitely not a star player, is better than most of them. For too long MU was not playing high tempo game and it is really hard to change.

Would be weird watching a Man City v Liverpool game where Liverpool dominate the midfield and Liverpool have higher possession. City have got Doku and Savio tho....Can attack from out wide. Wonderful matchup

That sounds like a reverse scenario for early days lib vs city where city wild dominate the midfield but mane and salah wld run riot on the widths

City have great wing okay now, but would be difficult to dominate City with Rodri, Kova and Gundogan/Bernardo... KDB roaming... This match needs to come quick before City click, coz as good as they look they are still figuring out the new system. I bet Slot wipes Arteta already, he looks good

You can see why ETH wanted Frenkie de Jong so bad as a press resistent midfielder who collects from the centre halves and can dribble out past pressing players or pass around them - but he and the club should have been able to identify an alternative when it appeared impossible to get him - Casemiro is not that guy and never was he's a different footballer asked to play a wrong role.
