Growing up and playing in the streets of Latin Americas I was always told by other kids that "toe-poke" is how amateurs kick the ball and that I had to learn how to really kick the ball. So I would copy the way they would kick with the inside of the foot and the outside of the foot as well. This is the first time I've ever heard that this is a proper shot or a real way to kick. TBH now as a 38 year old when I really want the ball to go to where I need it to go I do the "toe-poke" and hope that nobody payed attention to my foot lol

I have iron toes and it doesn't hurt at all when i do it and i have also learned how to place it top ins all the time, so it's absolutely deadly when used properly. I'd say it's best for clearing the ball, but if you can use it accurately then you can use it for free kicks. 👍💯

For the trivela, dont hit it with your toe like you were doing because it is so inconsistent, instead think of it like a normal curve shot but reflected, so you use the outside of your foot to shoot and you get alot more curl

It appears that Kieran did not lean his body enough to achieve proper outside foot follow-through with the ball. If we look at right-footed Quaresma (who appears to have mastered this technique), he seems to always have his trivela run up at a near perpendicular angle, and *really* leans towards his right side -as he plants- from a couple strides before he plants his left (pivot) foot. He also follows through the shot by letting his right leg swing wide to the (right) side, also to the point that he lands with his right (kicking) foot first.

With a toe poke you need to curl your toes into a little toe fist. That will help protect your toes and make a flatter area to hit the ball. Learned that one playing the futsal. Smaller, harder ball. Very little space to work in to get a shot off.

I accidentally did a volley once. Very new to football, I asked my friend to defend me as i would try to dribble up to the goal and shoot. I gave a shot with all my power, and he blocked it. Ball went flying up in the air, so I just ran up to the spot it would land, and shot it midair. My friend played for a football team, while the only experience I had was school (they barely taught us anything)
