The original invites everyone to dance no matter your skill level. It’s an actual party with kids being themselves. The remake is an audition for Americas best dancer and if you don’t have the moves hit the sideline and just clap. Kenny Loggins footloose is amazing.

The actors in the 2011 version were trying to put on a performance, but in 1984 they were genuinely having fun dancing together and you can see the difference in how this translates on screen and into our hearts. Nothing beats the original and I swear I wish I could UNSEE the remake.

I love remakes unlike most people but I have to agree with you. The 84' version was a bunch of unknowns making a teen movie that the had no idea would go on to become iconic. Their dance scene was like a bunch of people showing off their moves at prom or at a wedding, doing the Soul Train line type thing. The new version was like a flash mob or choreographed dance at a wedding. Still fun and interesting to watch but lacking spontaneous joy

Just a few of the reasons why the 84 'version wins hands down: 1) the charisma of Kevin Bacon and all the main actors; 2) they look like normal people and not models / dancers; 3) the actors showed a real mutual involvement; 4) that piece of music is pure fucking gold ...

@atmos3155 Жыл бұрын
Right? But that's pretty much just because the dancing in the 80s version was more a social dancing. Also, I'm sure there weren't as many studios back then to teach stuff like that, especially street dancing.

@Jourmand1r11 ай бұрын
dont you understand? they had to have acrobatic flips and break dancing because they had to represent "minority dancing". It had to be in your face the entire time or you might not have seen they were trying. They think having dudes doing street dance moves would make this movie popular with Black audiences so they could make more money. and before someone says "the original had flips and break dancing" Lol no. The OG movie had wacked out white kids pretending to break dance and doing weird flips. It's meant to be goofy because theyre so turnt up. the remake has a bunch of professional dancers doing Chris Brown moves.

I like both versions. But I have to admit the original 1984 has just something so special. Its energy and atmosphere of the dancing and the music is unbelievable. And nothing can be better. But still you cannot say that the remake is bad, it is not bad, it is not just so good. But I admit the actors in remake are much more better dancers but sometimes that is not everything so that is why the original will be forever the best.
@scz17702 жыл бұрын
it's because the people in the 80s version weren't doing a whole spectacle bombastic thing, they were just young people dancing and having fun. the 2011 remake was about "let's make this as insane and big as we can" and it lacks heart.

The original movie came out three years after my mom graduated high school, while the 2011 adaptation came out when I was 16. In my opinion, both are immaculate and boomers to millennials alike can relate as the same story is told in two very different time periods. It’s safe to say, I love them both.

Ok folks, take a step back and look at society around the years these films were made. '84 saw the unveiling of apple computer, a society that was all about excess, and in December, saw the creation of Band-aids "do they know its christmas. 1984 embraced movies that got down to just plain un scripted fun as we saw a nation fresh off a recession in a recovering economy. Fast forward to 2011, we get the end of the shuttle era, Katy perry and lady gaga take numerous awards, a still weak economy,that hadn't recovered from the Great Recession yet, and a generation that seems to only like mechanized dances, leaving out the pure, self-expression dance. Numerous cultural changes happened between those two years. Movie making changed to. Not many movies of the now really have any hit home or realistic take to them. Movie making now is mostly about making money at the box office and less about how much it mirrors real life
@YouTubeGetsWorseAndWorse11 жыл бұрын
All movies in a box office aim to make money. That's a goal, no matter how dedicated the director is to the film above all else. There are plenty of films today that are made to mirror real life, just like how there were plenty of films in the 80's that were pure fantasy. Also, call me skeptical, but I doubt you could back up that statement as fact, so please don't try and sell it like it's fact. Nothing against you, but your comment seemed too...well...pretentiously hipster to ignore. Not that I'm saying you're a pretentious hipster. You may be an okay guy in real life.

M Muneeb You are missing the point, I lived this pal, you are not listening to the lyrics, "everybody could footloose", and that's why this movie was so big, because it was true, we all could do it just like in the movie. What you see in the remake, you gotta be a professional dancer to do that shit, regular people like you couldn't make those moves even in your sleep.
@DJoy22110 жыл бұрын
M Muneeb Kevin Bacon was a very natural dancer, very fluent and real along with all the other dancers in the 80's version, none of it look rehearsed unlike in the movie. Although I did like some of the things they did in the new version it could never be what the 80's version is. Don't even get me started on Blake Shelton's version of Footloose because ugh, that was just not right. Although I do enjoy some of Blake's music it's hard to top Kenny Loggins.
