Auchinleck Talbot and Glenafton Athletic are two Scottish Clubs who compete in the regional junior football leagues. The 6th tier of Scottish football.
They have great histories and have both won the Scottish Junior Cup on a number of occasions, however their futures are at risk.

That was a brilliant video sir...very insightful. I appauld your passion as well. I live in SE England but this is an important issuse to world of football. Lower league clubs in England and Scotland should receive money from government but the amount of money at the top levels in football is astronomical so they should be helping out as well (in my opinion). Its good to see someone making these pionts on KZbin 👍👍👍

@@FootyAdventures I support Rangers FC, they are my passion and i have been a fan since i was a young boy. Rangers have been through so many hard times in recent history like having to work our way up through the lower SPFL League Divisions but ultimately emerging as Division Champions in all lower Leagues (2,1 & the Championship) on our journey back to the Premiership brought about a bigger respect for teams in those lower Divisions. That journey through the Leagues was made eventful due to the challenge of the other teams, with some very good games of football along the way. This video emphasising how important lower League football such as at Junior level is to the comunities and for grass roots development in our game. Great video 👍

Cracking video mate. I’ve spent years following senior football in Scotland but for the last 6-7 years I’ve been seriously following another Junior giant that is Irvine Meadow. The sense of community these clubs bring to their local areas should never be trivialized or taken for granted. It saddens me when I see the amount of money thrown around at elite level when junior clubs pretty much run from week to week or month to month. This is nobody’s fault simply the times we live in. But I want to tank you for bringing it to the attention of a wider audience. Also if you’re anywhere near Ayrshire again around August time you shoukd take in the local Irvine derby. Irvine Meadow (Medda) v Irvine Victoria (the Toria). Over the years we’ve had dropped ball gate. Players n fans arguing. Pitch invasions. The works.

Im from a town called bo'ness and in 2013 bo'ness played auchenleck and the amount of fans they bought That day was incredible and its not the shortest journey for an away day. That game was probably the best game I've been to for a junior game. Thank god bo'ness won. Even look up the game on KZbin you can see the amount of fans there and the atmosphere it brought.

Thanks very much for this Sam. Very important points you made there. I'll share this vid on twitter. Although Kello Rovers are my local junior team, I've always supported Auchinleck Talbot as well, since that's where my Mum's side of the family originate. (your pronounciation of "Auchinleck" got better as the video went on btw). It's absolutely tragic what's going on in Junior football. In addition to Talbot and Glens withdrawing, Cumnock Juniors and a number of other sides have done the same thing. I just hope against hope they can survive until next season, when hopefully crowds will be allowed again. Imo, the problem lies squarely with the Scottish footballing authorities, which are blatantly corrupt and so focused on benefiting not only the top tier, but a single team in the top tier, that they seem prepared to let grass roots football in Scotland be destroyed. Without the grass roots Scottish football will suffer immeasurably, and I hope and pray some way can be found for clubs such as these all around Scotland to continue.

Good comments, Bob. In my opinion, the splitting of the senior Scottish Leagues from 2 into 4 smaller (in size) leagues has been a disaster for Scottish football. For the lower clubs, a visit from the richer clubs may have led to the occasional thumping but provided them with bigger gates and more much-needed funds. It also helped to improve the standards of the lower clubs with regularly meeting good opposition. That has been taken away and Scottish football has declined from a "major" nation to becoming "very minor". However I would suggest that the whole SPFL setup is not just beneficial to one club but two. Additionally, many of the strong Scottish Junior clubs, outside the SFA, were in the coal mining villages and, with the closure of the mines, their support has declined greatly, severely limiting the vast "feeder" base for the SFA clubs.
@bobsteele55
@bobsteele55 4 жыл бұрын
@@frednerk3477 - Think your spot on about the situation until 2012 mate. Since then though another big factor has been diminishing interest in the Scottish game from outside Scotland and the resulting shortage of sponsorship and money in the Scottish game. Also since 2012 it seems to me that the SPFL and SFA's focus has been one club and one club alone, since it was clear they were the dominant force in Scottish football. Now that the league has become competitive again over the past couple of seasons (in that more than one team is capable of winning it now), that mindset of the Scottish football authorities unfortunately continues to persist imo, as evidenced by January's Dubai debacle, where the team responsible got little or no punishment, but all the lower tiers of Scottish football were shut down.

We are looking at a new, expanded pyramid system this season. Aside from current health and safety concerns, because of the new structure, clubs are now faced with an expensive, often unaffordable, increase in travel costs, not to mention the unavailability of part time players who have work commitments for certain fixtures. The sensible thing to do is to pause activity and wait until the current state of affairs passes. Trust me, nothing, but nothing, will ever kill the commitment and passion of the people who are the essence of junior football in Scotland and particularly, here in Ayrshire. Thank you for caring and taking the time to make this video.

Great video but just a small correction. The Junior leagues aren't on any tier as they are a separate system to senior football. You can't get promoted from the junior leagues to the Premiership. Junior football sits below all 8 levels of senior football in theory, but in reality it is actually closer to the 3rd or 4th tier of Scottish football in terms of the size of the clubs and quality of football.

Excellent points here. Those clubs are an integral part of football. It's where many players start, and end their careers. It's where stars of the future are found. They nake football accessible for many people. There are players who just want to play football, may be very become stars but they can shine at this level and have the opertunity to play every week. It would be a tragedy to lose those clubs but I beleive woukd be really damaging to the wider game. We want to see home grown talent. Clubs are buying players from around the world yet here we we see where the home grown talent starts, vital to our international game.

Junior football was/ still is separate from the spfl pyramid. It’s only in the last few years they’ve started merging into the spfl pyramid. West of Scotland league is a recent addition made up of all the teams from the west juniors. A lot of teams from the east, especially in fife, have been joining the east of Scotland league. Whilst it’s a shame to lose such a unique system, I think for the future of these clubs and non league in Scotland there needs to be a more unified pyramid.

Very hard to disagree with you relating to allowing fans in to parks and stadiums. The fact that some clubs are having to withdraw is disgusting and it is the bottom priority of the Scottish Government. The money still hasn’t been pledged and the Scottish FA is not doing enough to press the government on this matter. Everyone knows not all fans can’t come back but allowing 10-25% of fans is not unrealistic and will allow the clubs who rely on the gate money some income

Juniors football is ALREADY dead in the West of Scotland. All the clubs in the former West Region of the Scottish Juniors decided to leave en-masse to form a West of Scotland Senior League. Now they are part of the Pyramid. As the West Region was by far the strongest region (especially after most of the larger clubs in the East Region left to join the Seniors) the there is little left of the Junior grade in terms of strength of teams. The two clubs you mentioned were part of only five clubs that withdrew from the 20 club WoSFL Premiership. The other 15 negotiated with players who were keen to continue playing for reduced money. Only time will tell which clubs made the correct decision. Personally I think they made the correct decision in withdrawing for this season. My own club, Largs Thistle (who you mentioned lost to Talbot in the Scottish Junior Cup final) decided to continue. To further complicate matters, ATFC while no longer a Junior club are still allowed to compete in the Scottish Junior Cup. They are actually in the quarter final of the 2019-20 competition which may still be played to completion later this season.

Not as big a gap between the East and West as there used to be. Still would expect Clydebank to win the playoff but it won't be easy.

@@tonyh7994 There were only one or two clubs from the East that did well. You see that by the East/West split by the time the quarter finals of the Scottish came along. Maybe Clydebank (or whoever wins the League, subject to having a Licence) would win a play-off. But I think that's probably more down to the fact that those stronger East teams have already left the East League for the Lowland League.......and are also occupying the higher stages of that. I can see former Juniors from West and East going through the Lowland League and taking their place in League Two. The Lowland League will eventually be mostly former Junior clubs

@@peasie3946 In 10 years the Lowland League will be like the National junior super league that used to be talked about minus the Northern teams but add in a few ex SPFL clubs. I think the likes of Pollok, Talbot and Clydebank are all capable of reaching League One. I'm more interested in seeing how the rest of the west Premier and top East clubs get on. I don't think there is much between them and League Two clubs tbh. Hopefully a few west clubs are looking at getting licenses soon and we can see them in the Scottish Cup.

The bigger Junior clubs decided to join a new pyramid system to progress towards hopefully getting into the senior Scottish leagues by setting up the West of Scotland Leagues which is 2 Leagues below League 2. In England you have TV money going down all the way to the National League possibly even the National League North and South you don't have the same in Scotland. It is the Scottish Government that controls the regulations in Scotland. All those big Engkish clubs could have saved Bury, they didn't!

Pronounce "Auchinleck" as Och (as in "loch") -in-LECK (with a slight stress on the final syllable). Junior football is not really a tier - the SJFA is largely autonomous although affiliated to the SFA. Auchinleck versus Cumnock is the really bitter rivalry.

Alan Shields Hamilton South Lanarkshire. Me & My Girlfriend Carol are both Pollok fans & last Sunday our club released a very similar statement. My Girlfriend's father how is originally from Pollok asked me this question on Friday when I was talking to him over the phone So if Pollok have with drawn from The West of Scotland League for one season what happens if they are able to play again in season 21/22 will they be demoted or continue to play in The West of Scotland League honesty dont know the answer myself. My fear is that no Junior club will be able to take to the pitch again ever & may need to start again as a so could Phonex club if indeed that was even possible. What I can tell you Sam is basically The plan was The winners of The so could West of Scotland would have a Playoff with the bottom clubof The lawland League So basically clubs like Pollok would essentially not have been Junior clubs any longer & part of the senior club set up this would of started from this season onwards. But The conferences below The West of Scotland League would have still been Junior clubs this is my understanding. A lot of smaller Junior club like my local junior club from back home Johnstone Burgh have been miss managed financially down though the decades in 1999 / 2000 Johnstone Burgh had reached The Scottish Junior Cup final loseing on penaltys the following season they won the The Central League away to local rivals Renfrew & lost to Peterhill in The Central League Cup final but after this the club was badly miss managed & plans to move to a new all seater stadium close buy never happened they could not get the land sold the current ground is on & now the club is in the lower divisions of The Junior leagues but a lot of Junior clubs have similar storys. Talbot & Hurlford United have absolutely destroyed Scottish football over the years as lots & lots of money have been pumped in to they two clubs buy local businessmen & this has ment they have been able to dominate & that's why they are hated. Think of Talbot as The Manchester United of Scottish Junior football no one outside of there fanbases will have any sympathy what so ever with they two clubs they are both despised buy the rest of Junior football. Personally hope Talbot never take to to the pitch again & it takes a lot for me to say that. My grandpa Tomson my Mum's Dad helped build Johnstone Burgh's Ground he worked for the local builder how's idea it was to found the club in 1959 to give the people of Johnstone something to do on Saturday afternoons. Most Junior club but not all are from old mineing towns like Johnstone or Mill towns like you see in Thr English game on Netflix that's still the case for Junior club in Scotland. Last season before it was holted me & my Girlfriend Carol went all the way up to Forrris near Elgin to watch Pollok play a 3rd round tie in The Scottish Junior Cup away to Forris Thistle 14 hours of travelling that was for us from Hamilton via Pollok there & back so yes Junior football is massive in Scotland. It kills me inside what is happening with Scottish Junior football one of the things that was keeping me going though this entire Pandemic was getting back to watch Pollok again we where due to have our first competitive game next Saturday afternoon of the season this will now never happen gutted absolutely gutted. I think the issue with letting fans in to Junior clubs grounds is you cant allow fans in to Junior ground & not allowed fans of senior clubs in to games aswell it would be seen as double standards buy the Government & Old Firm fans alone would be up in arms if this was allowed to happen this is inspite Junior grounds being so open to the elements. You say about the bigger clubs & how much they have spent on players they could not careless about lower League clubs or Junior clubs. Keep safe Sam.
@FootyAdventures
@FootyAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, thanks so much for the comment again. Even though the fans of bigger clubs might think it's double standards, at least their clubs aren't reliant on matchday income to keep going. Seems to me like Scottish football below the SPL is dying and something needs to change ASAP!

@@FootyAdventures Honestly cant disagree our football system is overly complex I would say in Scotland. You have The Scottish Premier League Then The Championship Then Leagues 1 & 2 then the Lowland League , Highland League Then West of Scotland Professional Football League then Conferences A, B & C plus you also have Junior clubs in the North region how are separate from The Junior club in The West region , East region clubs & you then have The East of Scotland League & under that you have amateur clubs as I say way overly complex trying to explain to a none Scottish football fan how our football works is close to impossible if you understand Sam you are doing very well. Always sead we have far , far to many senior clubs for the size of population we have it makes absolutely no financial sense to me. Personally think The 4 Fife clubs should merge & The same with The Edinburgh clubs Hearts , Hibernian , Edinburgh City & Spartans. Perhaps Queens Park & Pollok should merge aswell as both are not far apart. You have two Junior clubs in The Springburn area of Glasgow that could merge aswell Petershill & Ashfield. In terms of The Premier League I would like to see a regular season of 56 games then an N.H.L style Playoffs with club playing a best of 7 game series & then as they would say in Australia a grand final this would drive up revenue from T.V as there would be more Old Firm game than just the 4 in the League plus when you ad in ticket sales & merchandise it could be a real bust to revenue that could be spread more evenly between divisions with the same idea being applied in the lower Leagues. Myb I am just crazy thinking this way but Scottish club football cant carry on the way it is that is for sure.
