I think that Scott Pendlebury will make the best decision for himself. I'm an Essendon supporter, but one cannot deny the amazing legacy he'll leave with Collingwood. Two Premierships, a Norm Smith Medal, the Collingwood games record holder and currently closing in on 400 AFL games. He's a legend of the game. Whether he chooses to remain a one club player, or offer his services as a player/coach at another club in a similar way to Luke Hodge at the Brisbane Lions, the decision is his. And we should respect him regardless of which path he chooses to follow.

Schroedinger's Fan: Simultaneously wants a Home game against Collingwood every year but also wants them to play more Interstate games. It's never been and will be a valid argument. Most of those games are against fellow Victorian tenants. Where's the Home field advantage when half the crowd is against you and your opponent plays just as many games as you do at the venue? North aren't VFL standard and are skewing the comp. So did West Coke for 2 years. North is going on 5. Ed's point is valid. Yours is not.

Why is being honest about where the club is at so drastic, everyone has heard of the term "you train how you play". If you have the youngest list in the AFL with a group largely made up of inexperienced players - physically and mentally - the intensity of the training sessions and cohesion of the playing group is, not surprisingly, going to be the worst in the AFL. To test that though, you would have to go to each of the 18 clubs' sessions, which I'm 100% certain no one has done. That aside, Clarkson has won 4 flags and been to five grand finals with the most skilled kicking team the AFL has seen, he understands better than all other coaches and everyone on the panel what is required to reach the pinnacle of the game.

@@iankearns774 haven't they explained why? If he wants to coach, it is a big benefit. If the AFL want to help Norf, without just handing them more pics, they might throw in some cash. So maybe Pendles thinks, I could earn an extra $4-4-600k for 1-2 seasons and work under Clarko, seeing and learning something different. Or not. I agree with Eddie that North really needs to try and build a stronger connection to North Victoria (assuming they’re already doing that) and I think his academy idea would help a lot. Look at the guns that Sydney picked up with their academy (I.e. Isaac Heeney). I think Sonja Hood (President) and Jennifer Watt (North’s CEO) are still playing catch up from the stagnation and inactive non-leadership of the Ben Buckley/Ben Amarfio era. Those guys can harp on about how they eliminated North Melbourne’s debt, but they did very little outside of that. At least James Brayshaw redeveloped their training facilities at Arden Street and orchestrated North playing in Tassie.

Why Norf Melbourne? Those areas are also relevant to Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon. Norf have been a basket case on and off since they joined the VFL. Bad organisation and low supporter base finished Fitzroy. Somehow Norf and the tin rattling doggies escaped that fate. Maybe time to merge Norf with their tin rattling neighbors and then you dont need a 20th licence. North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs merger would create a strong club with reasonable member base and those excess players could filter back to other AFL clubs and the new Tassie side Thus not diluting the comp with 40 average players when a 20th licence is offered.

The obvious place for relocation is Canberra, if the Giants had any nous they would have gone already.. their crowds are a joke, ditto Gold Coast. Canberra is full of cashed up public servants who have zero chance to get a regular footy fix. The Giants would get more fans day one than they are getting on a good day now. I dont know how many more chances North need, but they need to wake up and accept that there are too many teams in Melbourne. Canberra or some large regional centre would seem to me to be the obvious move for them as well.. As for Pendlebury... Damo simply confirming he is on the crack pipe. Melbourne cannot support 9 suburban clubs in an eighteen (soon to be 19) team competition. The AFL is too chicken (and corrupt) to execute North and send them to a lower league or association - so they have to merge them with Essendon or the Bulldogs. Eddie is clever and knows business but years rubbing shoulders with AFL types has meant he looks for solutions that appear to sound simple and sensible but are really pipe dreams hidden behind gliz solutions. North Melbourrne to that suburban corridor would be a disaster but unfortunately the AFL love disasters.
