I don’t think anyone thinks he is proud of the racism- we all know what he meant. But the report uncovered systemic racism and a history of avoiding blame by using spin- exactly what Eddie did here. His press conference was the time to apologize and acknowledge not try to turn it into a positive for Collingwood.

@@smallships the "report" done by indigenous activist Larissa Behrendt was always going to find "systematic racism" that's what she dose. When in reality, it's no different to what any other work place or football club has. Harry O'Brien gave himself the nickname chimp and had no problem with it. Until O'Brien had issues with Nathan Buckley not letting him address the players about gay marriage. But she chose to call it systematic racism.

Most large businesses and organisations conduct reviews/reports on the values and beliefs or their employees, including their conduct when it comes to racism and discrimination of any kind. The point Eddie is trying to make is that they are ahead of the curve in terms of AFL clubs conducting such reviews (at least reviews that become public knowledge). The fact that there were instances of systematic racism found in the review doesn’t mean the other clubs are clean of the issue. It just means they haven’t done a review either (hence behind the “curve”). Hope that helps explain what I think he means. Either way, peace ✌️ enjoy the season 🏈

When he announced the findings of the racism report he said it was a proud day at the Collingwood football club. He didn’t word it all that well and people took great offence. It’s was a mistake and a bad choice of words but ultimately it was a disgrace he had to stand down and they he was treated.
