Sure, maybe if they'd been able to show him there and then that he was fine he might have chosen to play through it but it seems legitimate to say "well this looks bad, this very tough player is reporting a high level of pain, let's bench him just in case". Yeah, Kane's comments stood out as particularly stupid, even from him. Then he tried to weasel out saying "I didn't call him soft, Marsh should be careful not to put words in my mouth". It was completely obvious what the implication of Kane's attack was. Just because he used a euphemism, rather than the actual word, 'soft', doesn't really matter. Then he used really dumb ad hoc reasoning, as if it justified his view, when he said, "I waited for the medical report before making my comments, there was no cracked ribs in the scan, just bruised ribs, he could have played through". Port didn't know he didn't have cracked ribs when they made the decision. You can't put a bet on after you read the score in the paper the next day. Port had to make the decision based on limited information, it was perfectly possible Butters did have cracked ribs and going back on would have done serious damage, literally what happened with Petracca that Kane himself was up in arms about. This is just the BS a bunch of ex-players do that is so harmful. They sound off, "current players aren't as tough as we were back in the day, footy today is too soft". All it does is put pressure on players to put their own health and future lifestyle at risk. They are desperate to remind everyone how tough they were back in their day. All the false bravado really does is show how insecure they are.

kane is actually scary about his manipulation techniques. most journos do it, all good ones do it and do it well but very few are as shameless and obvious about it as kane and even fewer successful ones do it like kane. he reads over select words from his stuff on butters on the sunday footy show, conveniently leaving out when he says he’s (butters) gotta “toughen up” which is another way of saying he was soft like let’s not fuckin lie to ourselves here, he’s calling him soft. (which i agree with to be clear) but anyway, caro then rightfully calls him out, pointing out the fact that kane said he’s gotta “toughen up” and kane then went onto dismiss the call out and even use a tone that implies he’s denying it and then he started reading from his quotes from sunday again and he starts from THE WORD AFTER “toughen up” 😂😂😂 he then moves onto essentially threatening marsh (not violently or physically) saying “paul’s gotta be really careful about putting words in my mouth that i didn’t say” and the scariest part is whilst saying this he also misquotes paul 😭😭😭 he said kane was calling him “basically soft” which is true. he then used something from the private phone call to defend himself… claiming paul said kane was questioning his courage which is what he did by saying he’s gotta toughen up. idk it just concerns me how people don’t see it.

But what if he the bruising is coupled with a new knock to the bruised area ? What's the risk to more serious injury? There's a balance between toughness in finals versus managing health and safety with a quantifiable objective risk based approach. I think Kane's approach needs to be coupled with correct risk assessment. It's a pity Kane can't apply his tough approach on safety to kicking skills at Port Adelaide. When you cant kick straight maybe kane should be selling his tough approach to Ken H and they should all be down at Alberton 5 am Monday morning kicking at goals until they get it right. Other than part timers like Browny n Bucks. Kano is the only commentator I respect.. The rest of them are just like the actual news media propaganda machines pushing the company line that the AFL wants them to push. Eventually some woke pos group will put Kano in their crosshairs and he will get run out of the game.. and the game will be much worse for it.

I never thought that Kane would be the voice of reason now with Footy. He is right with most things and the only one with the balls to say it. He called out my Eagles first and was proven right

Just for the record, Zach Butters has been throwing the ball all year. When both hands move when you handpass the ball, that is a throw. Don't believe, just watch him. I have seen him hear the whistle right after he hand passed the ball where he spun around to show the umpire that he punched the ball, only to find out it was for another free kick in back play. Yes, indicating that he is very aware of what he is doing. This needs to looked at in a big way. It's cheating. And he's aware of it.

Throwing the ball is endemic at the moment in the AFL and it's been called out. But..... nothing yet is being done about it, AFL House don't want to slow the game down. Speed is what the AFL want, at virtually any cost.

LOL. Ken has a horrible history of selecting injured or unfit young men. Ken is a loser, with a loser mentality that his game plan isn't at fault, it's the players. Or list management. Or the SANFL. Or the assistant coaches. The Doc Rivers of the AFL - a blame-shifter extraordinaire.

I’ve been saying for years the power failure have one of the worst, most overrated lists going around, glad the media has finally caught up. They win a wooden spoon within three years I guarantee it.
