For 92-Year-Old, a Daily 'Roam' Through Cleveland's Past and Present

Slavic Village, on Cleveland’s south side, has gotten a lot of attention in recent years for becoming emptier, after the foreclosure crisis a decade ago. But for one long-time resident, the neighborhood is still full -- of stories. ideastream’s Justin Glanville reports, as part of our storytelling project marking the 150th anniversary of the Cleveland Public Library.

I'm only in my 30s but I'm already seeing my childhood memories being demolished. I can't imagine the things this gentleman has seen come and go. I like hearing these old timers talk of better days passed. It's nice that someone remembers to remember.

Move tickets were 50 cents at the Olympic theater, the public library, the drop inn bar, western auto, my brothers and sister were born at st Alexis, Myron t Herrick jr. High school , I know the area well. 😃

Yes! He passed my street off of 71st, pizza place, I guess the owner was polish! His hair was like cotton! Pizza was sooo! Delicious 😋 now its! A restaurant! Across from Drug Mart! I remember Silvermans, now is Roses's department store, Red Barn chicken place across the street! The good old days!!!❤❤❤❤❤

One thing fasho as a kid that part was called goose town & Slavic Village wasn't spread all over was mostly north Broadway!
