@neutronalchemist32419 жыл бұрын
+Marlene Buchhalter And think that, first than this movie, his career had pratically ended. He was involved in a car accident in 1959 in which he lost his left kneecap, had been ill for a while (infact in this movie he seems much older than his 39 years), and Hollywood forgot him. In 1964 he made a living as a painter, and, as he remembered later, was not able to pay the phone bill. For the role of Col. Mortimer Leone thought first of Henry Fonda, then Lee Marvin, but the two were already working for other productions, so he remembered Van Cleef, that he saw in several western of the '50s and went in search of him. "When I saw him, I was struck by his silhouette, his extraordinary attractiveness. He was perfect for my character".

Marlene Buchhalter IKR, I actually feel bad that the tagline for The Big Gundown (great film, great performance) is "Mr. Ugly comes to town!" Come on guys, lol. I guess it can be argued that his "ugliness" is what makes him so attractive. He's different in his sexiness.

Correct. It's called "The Dollars Trilogy": A Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More, and The Good the Bad and The Ugly, in that order. Lee Van Cleef dressed exactly like one of his childhood heroes in two movies “Spaghetti Westerns’ Wyatt Earp. Lee’s costume is a perfect copy of the famous outfit worn by Wyatt Earp in 1881 in Tombstone Arizona. Lee provided his own clothes as did Clint Eastwood. Lee even used a 12 inch barrel Colt like the one used by Marshall Earp. The Hat, Coat, Shirt, Vest, Tie with Tie pin, Boots, Guns every detail is a Tribute to the most famous Lawman-Marshall in American history. John Wayne often said he used Wyatt Earp as his main character influences. Every time he walked onto the stage set he pretended to be Marshall Earp. Clint Eastwood made his character Harry Callahan “Dirty Harry” after Marshall Wyatt Earp. The biggest influence on many western movies and actors has been the most famous lawman Wyatt Earp

to whoever the "Duck of Judea" was that sent that text. Both Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Clef were veterans. Eastwood served in Korea and Van Clef World War II

that scene still puts a chill down my arms! Amazing acting and it proves that some scenes can be powerful with very little dialogue muddling it up! Kudos to Mr. Van Cleef here as without him bringing the negative element truly needed for such scenes, these movies would not have struck the chord required for Clint to become as well known as he has! We all like watching Clint, but I wanna be like Lee Van Cleef! Ya know, I wanna be like Lee! ~Primus-Lee Van Cleef

Brilliant! Displaying both of their strengths. Showing us that they'd work well together...

Love just how cold and calm they both are, but I would say Cleef won. this one in the way he moves and don't react to being shot at.

I just finished watching this movie tonight and when this scene played, I immediately recognised it, although I've never watched the movie. Then I remembered, it's the same scene my dad showed me when I was very young, I remember it very clearly and how much my dad must've loved this scene considering how much he replayed. I never thought I'd get into westerns like my parents, but I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. If I had tried to find this scene my dad loved to show me, I wouldn't know where to start looking, back then I had no idea who Clint Eastwood or Lee Van Cleef were but the fact I have now watched the dollars trilogy and remember seeing this scene from when I was so young and watching it with my dad, it made this movie my absolute favourite and this scene my absolute favourite as well. I don't know, it's mind boggling to me how I watched this scene long ago and still recognised it instantly, the sense of nostalgia I got was insane
