I'm a proud owner of one 1967 bell matic, model 4006 7000, 27 jewels, the same dial colour. Regards from Brazil....

Awesome clip Spencer as I collect these bells. I have a dolphin 7000 Dec. 66, a non- dolphin Jan. 67 notched case, and a bunch of others like the 7010 all around 68-69. I've even managed a clean 1967 business-bell in SGP. I obviously am fond of them all. Thank you as always !

Great collection! Love Bells as well,have myself two, a 4006-6020 (010751) from January 1970 and a Dolphin 4006-7000 (6N53978) from November 1966.Interested to know more about your Dolphin 7000 from Dec 66 as I believed the Dolphin was only used in November and changed to the Horseshoe in December 1966.Thanks.

You are correct horseshoe back in Dec.66 ! I have 6N54019. Keep an eye out for the 4005 as well, date only, no day. I have a couple of those as well. Awesome watches, enjoy the hunt.

Nice change to see a Bell-Matic on your bench,a real treat! Never knew that information on the font being the same as Rolex used,really cool. In production from 1966 to 1978,came in 27,21(21J was a U.S Export model, limited numbers made during 1967/68) and 17 Jewels. Also had a date only model (4005) that was only sold in Japan during 1968/69. An expensive watch indeed,an example taken from a 1970s catalog,a 17 Jewel 6027 Bell-Matic was $667 in today's prices,compare that to a 6105 for $613. The earlier 7000 models use a different crown that can't be opened so cannot change the gasket,also feature a notch in the case around the alarm button,longer "long tail" Alarm spring ,and a dimple in the button for the alarm that got changed in February 1967. The Seiko museum has the same model (7070TAD) in their exhibit,interesting as they call it "1967 Business Bell" even though the Business Bell was a separate model(4006-7010). Hope to see you work on more Bells in the future and if u ever find the non Stelux "Chiclet" bracelet,please let me know.Thanks
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch4 жыл бұрын
There's a non-Stelux chiclet?? I have one of the Stelux ones; didn't know there were any variants. Lastly, since I almost never toot my own horn, I'm proud of the fact that I named the "chiclet" bracelet, way back when I got my 6139-6000 proof on its original Chiclet.

@@SpencerKleinVintageWatch Cant post Links here,Video on KZbin showing the bracelet on a Dolphin Bell,Look for 'SOTC for Erik Strickland, in-order by acquisition date. Recorded Jan. 5, 2020' @1:01:33.Made by Seiko very similar to the Stelux that also gets referred to as 'Chiclet' found on other Seiko models from around that time.I believe the Stelux variant does not fit the early 7000 cases as the lugs are slightly different.

Have you tried the trick of tapping on the movement holder with your tweezers when trying to line up the train bridge pivots? It is like magic. When done correctly the pivots find their holes by themselves. Got that trick from another watchmaker. Saves a ton of frustration and time.

Thanks for the look into a BellMatic. Oh and you don't have to apologize for the noises of a living household in the background. Which spring winder did you use for the alarm bell spring? I have a KD but it mangled the spring.. its an early 50s version. Good news is it was a practice spring :)

Finally I've been waiting to see what's inside my Bellmatic for years. Picked it up for less than £100 a few years ago, it runs & rings but could do with some of your magic hopefully you'll be taking work again sometime soon(ish). Keep up the great work!
@truebluemiata4 жыл бұрын
That's a cool watch. A bit sporty but dressy too. I like the fluted rehaut ring. I've not thought much about Bellmatics, not having much need for an alarm or a dress watch. This video gives me second thoughts.... Could you add a breakout on how the Bellmatic alarm works in a Friday mail call? Thanks.

Such a beautiful watch!! I was surprised the caseback seal was so brittle after 5 yrs....made me wonder if the seal was replaced at the last service.

My focus is on Seiko - I have more than enough work to keep me running with that. Also, my entire tool and supply setup is specific to Seiko. Growing the channel wasn't ever a goal of ours, though it's nice to have people watch. I made these videos specifically for the owners, and the owners send in Seiko, so Seiko it is!

Hi Spencer! i have one just like that but whit black dial 27j 4006-7020 from 69, how many jewel is actually functional? the alarm button on my bell goes out if i use force on it. Is it a easy fix ore do i need to take the watch apart? Best
@randyallen27714 жыл бұрын
Very cool, thanks for the detailed video. I'm curious what over banking looks like on the timegrapher, or is it visible?
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch4 жыл бұрын
Both, sort of. On the timegrapher the numbers just turn into a bizzare snowstorm cascade of rising and falling chaos, and all the displayed numbers are blank and/or junk. It's also called "knocking" and you can hear it.

Hi! I've just purchased a bellmatic 4006-6040 and realised that the date quickset is not working.. The seller is saying that not all bellmatics have a quickset for the date but I did some research and it should work by pressing-in the alarm button. Everything else works perfectly fine, like alarm, weekday adjustment, keeping perfect time, it's just that the alarm button is not moving inwards at all from the ordinary position, no matter how hard I push. Will it be an easy fix? Thank you very much for your help!

Yes, you are correct. The date quicksets with the alarm button. The seller is trying to bamboozle you.

While your postman keeps ringing twice.... I have a question (I could, you said so in your intro video!) You start stripping parts (such as the balance) out of the watch BEFORE you have removed it from the case... I was wondering why... most pro's (and rank amateurs too) take the movement out of the case before starting the actual work. Since you can claim "I am a watchmaker" (and not get arrested.... also in your intro vid!) I assume you know what you are doing, and I'd like to know the reason for this 'aberrant behaviour' (LOL) Paddy
