Hi Spencer, I believe the number on the movement was actually a chronometer testing number rather than a serial number as such. I've got a 4502-7000 & the seconds hand is slightly jittery on the upstroke between 6 & 12 then smoothes out between 12 & 6. I've read that this is due to the movement having an indirectly driven seconds hand , but is this correct?

Question for mail call: whether it be a cap jewel on the escape pivot on a 17jewel handwinder, or the diafix jewel on a 4502 or a 6349 - do you lubricate the bottom of the cap jewel (like a balance shock jewel setting) or do you lubricate the base of the jewel where the pivot sets, like a standard train jewel? Always wondered.

Hey Spencer, since you did not film most of the re-assembly, I wanted to ask which lubricants you used for the wheels' pivots. From a lubrication guide I found online, the recommendation is to use S-4 on all but the escape wheel and pallet fork pivots, and instead lubricate those with synthalube. I'm guessing with such a powerful mainspring, lubricating the pallet fork pivots won't have a significant effect on amplitude.

I never ever lubricate the pallet fork pivots; it'll kill amplitude and accuracy like you wouldn't believe. It's something I only do when the balance is overbanking / knocking.

It’s a damned shame seiko doesn’t sell hi beat movements affordably any longer. In fact it’s pathetic that I now just after chicom homages than actual seiko watches

Not sure they ever were that affordable from new. Vintage King Seiko & Lord Marvel Hi Beat rates watches are pretty under valued & affordable now though.

100%. That 4502-7001 of mine I got for $350~ish, this year! The real deal, the best production period Seiko had, groundbreaking tech, classic style, for less than a new gaming console. And the reissues are thousands.
